Bingo 🎯

I see biglaw is starting to wake up

Notably represented by Arnold & Porter, the first Biglaw firm I’ve seen involved in any of these cases

Becoming pretty that major reforms are needed to the Federal Vacancies Reform Act. But beyond that, it shows why Democrats should not be casting a single vote for any Trump nominee. Once they are confirmed to *any* position, they can be made the “acting” head of any agency

Quirky, and probably random, appellate nugget: the Ninth Circuit only filed one published opinion this week. First time I can recall that happening in a long time (at least outside of a holiday period). The court usually averages around 1-2 opinions per day.

A top administration lawyer not knowing that “no one” is two words is pretty on brand

The birthright citizenship executive order is obviously unconstitutional. But it’s frustrating that courts and lawyers are going to have to waste thousands and thousands of hours getting to that obvious conclusion. So much for making government more efficient

to recap: — Trump was *for* the TikTok ban — which the GOP Congress passed — and the GOP Supreme Court upheld — and even though Biden said he wouldn't enforce the ban, TikTok shut down anyway — so that Trump could "save" it — and the media fell for it we really do live in the dumbest fucking country

Disappointing to see so many people putting the blame on Biden/Democrats for TikTok shutting down. This was a bill that was initially pushed by Republicans and was passed a Republican house. Maybe it’s a bad law, maybe it’s not, but the idea that one party is to blame is farcical

One of my favorite things to do while traveling is to ask the airport bartender for a martini and see what they give you. Vodka or gin? Stirred or shaken? (they seem to love shaking martinis) Up or…on the rocks?? You really never know what you’re going to get

Washington Post October 25, 2024: “We are returning to our roots of not endorsing …” Washington Post Today: well, except for all these people. Then definitely back to our roots.

Never felt better about having cancelled my WaPo subscription after the non-endorsement debacle

There will be calls to leave behind people more vulnerable than you this year. Many people will. You won’t.

On New Years Eve, I always think of Avicii. 13 years ago tonight, he put on the best concert of my life. An incredible talent taken from the world too soon

The government: Luigi Mangione is no martyr. Also the government:

Just finished Season 1 of the Lincoln Lawyer, and if I’m understanding things right, a prosecutor got mad at her defense attorney ex-husband for exposing that a cop lied to send the defense attorney’s innocent client to prison. They did say this show was realistic…

One of my favorite memories from my time as an SID at Wake Forest was working with our 2011 women’s soccer team as they made a run to their first-ever College Cup. Pretty cool to see the Deacs qualify for their first national championship game today. Bring home the title on Monday! 🎩🎩🎩
