Must-Read: @katewillett.bsky.social exposes the reactionary Silicon Valley roots of the so-called "Abundance" agenda. Having bought the Republican Party, the billionaires seek to co-opt the Democratic Party with these color-by-numbers anti-progressive talking points newintermag.com/abundance-bi...

thinking about what it will take to mobilize tech workers so working on brownshirt shit like this is ruinously costly, and defecting/resisting is as easy as possible

As much as electoral stuff is not my jam, I will gladly and enthusiastically support Dem politicians and orgs who will mobilize for ending these kidnappings and pushing their colleagues to stop being such cowards

As DOJ argues that federal courts have no authority to order "any particular acts of diplomacy," I want to remind everyone that SCOTUS let Matthew Kacsmaryk seize control of Biden's border policy for 10 months and micromanage diplomatic negotiations with Mexican officials. slate.com/news-and-pol...

No one deserves detention. No one deserves deportation. No one deserves prison. No one deserves to be separated from their loved ones. No human is illegal. Free them all.

Nothing really exists in education until there is an OECD test for it. So we can now expect the international "AI literacy" ranking results in 2030, in case any countries wanted yet another way to be seen to perform on a made-up education metric. www.oecd.org/en/about/pro...

Abrego Garcia's wife: "I will not stop fighting until I see my husband alive. Kilmar, if you can hear me, stay strong. God hasn't forgotten about you. Our children are asking when you will come home ... they miss their dad so much."

Anne Frank's diary just got removed from a number of libraries, so hopefully most adults understand the importance and implications of having this discussion now.

As @altnps.bsky.social says: Film these encounters, put them live on social media, broadcast them any way you can. That’s how we create records and paper trails in the digital age.

Didn’t get a chance to post this earlier, but there was a huge turnout in support of Kilmar Abrego Garcia at the federal courthouse. From my seat in the jury room, I heard the supporters outside chanting throughout the hearing.

Something that's clear to me is a few prominent, nominally liberal voices spent years providing intellectual cover to a movement that is is proving itself undeniably autocratic and they're either just realizing it themselves or think the rest of us were too stupid not to notice it before

Yes the comparison to Nazis is correct if you have the full transparent historical overview of what the Nazis were like, yes this is the "Nazi playbook" except that the Nazis built way slower with way more social and industrial buy in for years before they took each step

We've seen videos like this before, but usually when you see a tearful wife pleading with the kidnappers who have taken her husband, she's not talking to the U.S. president

Every chance you get, say “fuck you” to authoritarian demands. One of the regime’s tools is making people believe resistance is futile—that acquiescence is the only option. But especially for those with power and privilege, the most basic, necessary act is to say: FUCK YOU.

I don’t think you can summarize the fatal problem with modern liberalism any better than “My issue with the way people are being deported and disappeared is procedural.”

The DOJ lawyer who made the mistake of answering the court's questions about Abrego-Garcia candidly (eg yes he was mistakenly deported, a fact the Administration already has acknowledged), which got him put on administrative leave, has now been fired, ending his 15-year DOJ career..

🔇🔇🔇Announcing new work from DAIR which is very close to my heart, 3 years in the making. When #TigrayGenocide, the deadliest genocide of the 21st century thus far, started in November 2020, it was 1 month before I got fired from Google. 🧵 english.elpais.com/internationa...

Marco Rubio isn't doing a lot of foreign policy these days, but what he IS doing is disappearing people for voicing their First Amendment rights. Secretary Rubio, why don't you stop lying and picking on college students and come testify before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee?

Ask the questions publicly, loudly, over and over. Answer them quietly, with your friends, in a way that can be acted on and made real

there’s no reason not to do this. it’d probably end up with another kind of constitutional crisis, which is exactly why it should happen.

File impeachment articles that are just direct quotes from the Declaration of Independence

I am a nobody but I have been saying for years that “mass deportations” poll well until you actually get into what that means. Which is why the Democrats trying to be the tough border party instead of *contesting the narrative war* was always infuriating!

In this Op-ed for Scientific American, Asmelash Teka Hadgu and I discuss one of the many reasons the idea of replacing US federal workers with so-called generative AI systems should terrify us. 🧵 www.scientificamerican.com/article/repl...

Over and over I have seen people in leadership positions claim to be too busy and important to put in any effort towards understanding the context required to make a decision, and people just go along with it instead of demanding basic literacy

Jewish Organizations Are Fighting Back Against Khalil Deportation truthout.org/articles/jew...

if they cannot guarantee your return in case of error, this is as irreparable a harm as harm gets short of summary executions

The social sanctions for being an ICE employee should be massive and devastating enough that people are very reluctant to take the job, like we should treat it on the same order as being a member of a violent neo-Nazi extremist militia

Your regular reminder that almost everything Trump is getting away with is not because of presidential strength, but because of congressional weakness and judicial deference. The constitutional tools are already there to fix this, but those who can fix it are refusing to do so.

The biggest Nazi concentration camp wasn't in Germany itself. Trump and Bukele aren't special and new, they're shitty and old.

NO ONE should be sent to El Salvador, you baby-brained losers. My God.

I hope everyone remains safe and also that people know that a corporate spaceflight of only women astronauts for a company owned by a deeply destructive billionaire who is enabling fascism is just public relations for fascism and has absolutely nothing to do with feminism

This is a now or never moment. The way we respond over the next few days, as individuals and institutions, is crucial. And currently we're missing the mark. If we don't act now we will lose everything.

One of the reasons I’m struggling to inhabit the current historical era is that I along with many others have been saying that US prisons are torture chambers for decades and most people don’t mind this in the least. I’m not sure who will be moved to close prisons now.

where have we heard the “just following orders” excuse before 🤔

I just called both my senators and told them to join Van Hollen

The president told a Central American dictator to build five more massive slave labor camps to hold US citizens.

Um no, "crime" and "criminal" have always been used to establish hierarchies of people. It's just that now many other people are seeing what has been happening to Black, Brown, LGBTQ+, poor people, etc. "normal people" wut

I actually don't agree. Historically speaking, the "criminal" label has been used specifically to dehumanize, control, and repress Black people. It has little to do with their actual conduct, and the law and its enforcers will do their best to smear the subjects of enforcement.

“They are afraid of this very popular view.” One of Mahmoud Khalil’s lawyers says the Trump administration is attacking the First Amendment rights of student protesters because they are threatened by the growing popularity of the Palestine solidarity movement.

Dude was illegally arrested and deported to a slave prison in an unrelated country and these bastards can’t be bothered to answer for what they did or lift a finger to fix it. You’re not special (to them). When they violate your rights, it won’t go any differently. So the thing is to stop them now.

On the evening of March 17th, after Ramadan iftar, masked ICE agents took Georgetown researcher Dr. Badar Khan Suri from his family without charge. Follow the latest in Suri's case in @thehoya.bsky.social: thehoya.com/news/trackin...

Remember, the word BULLSHIT is the only response you need against bad faith arguments. It negates everything the speaker says and puts them on the defensive.
