🚨 HOUSING WIN 🚨 Alderwoman Rossana Rodriguez-Sanchez has formally expressed her support for 50 new homes located at 3819 N Kedzie Ave in Chicago's Irving Park neighborhood. Ten homes (20%) will be affordable rental units. AHIL community members wrote over 50 letters in support of the project.

Just forwarded this to the planner of a small town where a family member lives. She likes ADUs, but told me that an attempt changing the city code to allow ADUs would require a $1,000 feeβ€”a HUGE barrier to change. If this law passes, it would remove that barrier and promote more housing options!

The 349 home Fern Hill development in Old Town is on the agenda for the April 15th Zoning Committee agenda! If you are available on Tuesday from 10-11 AM, we encourage you to head down to City Hall and give public comment in support of the project. πŸ—οΈ

The American Planning Association Illinois Chapter (@apail.bsky.social) has endorsed HB 1813, which would allow ADUs statewide. 🏘️πŸ₯³ www.ilapa.org/aws/APAIL/pt...

β€œWe’ve created a system where a small group of people can block or dramatically slow down projects that would serve the broader community. NIMBYism may preserve the status quo for some, but it pushes opportunity out of reach for many more.” πŸ”₯ www.chicagobusiness.com/opinion/chic...

AHIL member Richard has been on a writing spree this week! His latest piece for City That Works highlights the benefits of passing HB1813 (ADUs) and HB1814 (four-flats) and describes how individuals can support these critical pieces of housing legislation. citythatworks.substack.com/p/springfiel...

This week, AHIL submitted a formal letter of support for Chicago's Green Social Housing Ordinance (02025-0015560). Leveraging $135M to fund mixed-income housing will cut costs, rescue stalled projects, and reduce our reliance upon increasingly tenuous federal funding sources. 🏘️

Not all heroes wear capes.

AHIL member Richard Day had his op-ed on Chicago’s high affordable housing costs published in the Sun Times! He advocates for focusing on cost-efficient designs and streamlining funding and approval processes to lower costs and house more families. 🏑 chicago.suntimes.com/other-views/...

Tonight, AHIL-endorsed candidate Daniel Biss handily beat his opponent to win re-election as mayor of Evanston. The election was a referendum on Envision Evanston 2045, a bold proposal to legalize missing middle housing citywide. Supporting abundant housing is a winning strategy in Illinois. 🏘️ πŸ†

2-to-4 flats are a super important part of Chicago's housing stock, which is why this panel was put on by CNU Chicago, @strongtownschicago.bsky.social, and @abundanthousingil.bsky.social (and hosted by MPC)

67 new homes are ready for their first residents in Little Italy 😌
