This. Very well put by @jolyonmaugham.bsky.social. I've donated, because this needs to be fought. The direction of this country's govt & institutions need to be challenged. This is a human rights issue. Can you help? Pls share this, & bung GLP a donation if you can. #SupremeCourt #TransRights

It's clear and, in its own scope, right. But the problem is that every time a court says its decisions will not diminish the equal status & protection of trans people, the politics prove quite otherwise. It makes Hodge's statement ('not the victory of one group over another') look at best naive.

57% of Britons would rather have the EU as a close trading partner than the US, amid suggestion that closer alignment with Europe could endanger a trade deal with the US EU: 57% (+4 from 21 Jan) US: 16% (-5) yougov.co.uk/topics/econo...

This piece is basically fine but I just feel so erased by the way discourse on this topic sets it as 'women' Vs 'trans people'. This is a deliberate framing by the anti-trans lobby and does not reflect reality: if anything, polling shows women to be more supportive of trans rights than men

My Ayn Rand story is that I violently drop kicked Atlas Shrugged across a room because one of the examples of how unfettered rich people were vital for progress was a guy trying to make more rigid steel a for railway... when the whole point of steel rails is that steel is highly elastic and flexes.

My husband has taught human reproduction and development to the Cambridge medics for over three decades. When people start banging on about "only two biological sexes" he starts with "which sex: genetic, hormonal, or gonadal"? Biological sex is not binary. www.scientificamerican.com/article/sex-...

so by this logic, if someone stole all of mark zuckerberg's 180.6 billion US dollars and used it to make their own company, it ought to be fine, because each stolen dollar, when tallied individually, is only a tiny fraction of the whole and therefore basically worthless

"Agree to disagree" is for things like the best Britney song or the best pizza topping. You do not agree to disagree with someone who thinks large groups of people have no right to exist. That's not an opinion, that's hate, pure and simple.

The clinging onto harry potter is part of the same fascist phenomena of returning to a glorious past and the simplicity of childhood. To let it go would mean progressing and growing your understanding of the world and that is unacceptable

Another reason to hate the crypto business. It might be blowing up your utility bills. This is from @lifehacker.com

BLUESKY POWER USER TIP: this website isn’t full of humorless tone-scolds if you block them on sight

Don't get excited. But maybe you can get a little excited about the possibility of getting excited. (Also, this is exactly the sort of stuff the current administration is planning to defund. Fuck those dudes.) Gift article. www.nytimes.com/2025/04/16/s...

My biological sex is female. It has changed Phenotype is orders of magnitude more important than genotype for everything from discrimination to healthcare to sexuality Chromosomes are meaningless and any law treating them as all sex is is wrong

Welcome to Bluesky 💙🦋

It’s worth noting that JK Rowling is not only funding meritless legal challenges against trans people until they can appeal up to the court that will back them, she openly gloats about how this is where her money is going. This is what the Harry Potter TV show is bankrolling.

Clive Barker gets it. faroutmagazine.co.uk/hellraiser-c...

Andrew makes a very good point here. So, I guess that today we need to do this. Let's talk about sex (baybee).

My letter in the National about biological determinism being reductive and regressive. I don’t want to try and speak for trans people, but I am with you 🏳️‍⚧️❤️ www.thenational.scot/politics/250...

there are smarter and more thoughtful writings out there on the UK's awful TERF infestation, but I do have to say I find it darkly funny that the best they can come up with is that "large gametes" shit, like their crowning achievement in life is being able to lay a fucking egg

1/5 At Engender it will take us time to fully assess the implications of the lengthy and complex judgment released today by the Supreme Court. We will share further reflections in due course.

The first recorded strike in history took place almost 3,200 years ago! The ‘Strike Papyrus’ recounts that in year 29 of the reign of Ramesses III (c. 1157 BC) royal tomb workers at Deir el-Medina downed tools over pay and working conditions! Museo Egizio, Turin 📷 me #AncientBlueSky 🏺 #Archaeology

I'm not taking away from the entirely correct and justified anger on today's court ruling by everybody who matters, but turning the clock back on trans people's lives by saying everything is binary has put a boot on the neck of intersex people (difficult to measure, but estimated at 1.7%).

A theory: high property prices aren’t just bad for those who don’t own property. They squeeze the life out of cities. In this week's newsletter.

The scenes of 'celebration' today are going to stay with me for a long time. It's just really disturbing and depressing.

Today especially, if you’re going to screencap the worst of us, please use alt text so it doesn’t circumvent the mute filters a lot of us have set up

There's maybe no photo that better defines this ghastly era than these people celebrating the right to deny shelter to homeless trans women in the name of female empowerment.

Surprise! The Dark Science Kickstarter got funded, can you believe it??? If you missed the window, don't worry, we're accepting late pledges for a limited time!

Going through the For Some Women decision, and something I haven't seen mentioned elsewhere is that the court took it upon itself to define lesbians in a way that excludes some cis lesbians and includes some straight trans men.

I really cannot emphasise the extent to which this will piss her off. Keep the cause of genuinely trans affirming anatomical education entirely out of her control.

Trans communities are devastated by today’s ruling. Instead of bringing clarity, the Supreme Court has made a ruling which appears to contain a number of contradictions. The intent seems clear: to exclude trans people from society. Full statement: transactual.org.uk/blog/2025/04...

love to be an american tranny going "well maybe the UK isn't *too* bad by comparison" meanwhile the UK supreme court exists

I don't remember the last time I was this emotionally invested

I trust Jess a lot more than any of the UK mainstream media on this Be warned, it's very dark reading this. They took a lot of legal rights away from all trans people today

Note: This is actually just the variations we know about. There's probably a lot more that we don't know. Biology is a messy messy thing.

“This is like a physical punch, because what it feels like for pretty much every trans and non-binary person in the UK is that you’d like to be exclude us wholesale from UK society.” Powerful interview from Jane Fae, discussing today’s UK Supreme Court ruling (BBC, World at One).

Honestly I think this is a key point. If FWS and their ilk are just brave feminists who want to protect women, then why have their actions led to the worst men alive being so very delighted today?

What does "biological sex" even mean here? How can the GRA remain legally intact if GRCs no longer change sex "for all purposes"? Surely another ECHR case must follow.

lovely juxtaposition of gender critical people publicly going "ah, finally a victory for common sense :)" and trans friends wondering privately if they need to seriously consider emigrating as Britain just doesn't feel safe for them

The right couldn't defeat feminism on its own terms but it's managed to defeat it by getting self-identified feminists to blow it up from the inside. If womanhood and misogyny are determined by biology, feminism is dead.

Just re-upping this in the wake of today's Supreme Court ruling
