More than 75% of Americans know who/what the Chupacabra is (to the extent that they have an opinion on its existence)????

I was seeing an American woman while in Lima and suggested seeing a Latin American movie (because I was cool & hip to local culture...) that had gotten a high rating in the local paper. I skimmed the synopsis & took her to see evangelical anti-abortion propaganda: es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Punto_y...

If I don’t text back, call back, or email back, it is because I am in hardcore IQMR-prep mode (not as a participant anymore πŸ€“, but as a coordinator 😎) Two more days to go! πŸ”₯

This resonates. We found it surprisingly hard to get some places to call me (who can almost always answer phone) before my wife (who often cannot).

Such a great combo of orgs and people! Sure to be a fantastic event!

God, I love local politics!

I don't know if bsky is a good platform for political debate. But as a replacement for academic twitter -- if the 10-skeet response to this by @dandekadt.bsky.social , complete with tables & maps, doesn't make your heart go pitter patter on a Monday morning, I don't know what will.

Another thing to mention for people who don't live in LA. Most of LA is very chill and peaceful right now. There's a huge Pride fest going on, countless farmer's markets, tourists walking around, families at the parks, people walking their dogs. It's a big place.

One of the main things I think I've learned from decades of studying social movements and contentious politics is that all broad assertions about what kinds of movements and actions work, and how and why, are grossly incomplete at best and dangerously reductionist at worst. Reality is way messier.

🚨 Big milestone for Rdatasets 🚨 The web archive now hosts 3400+ free and documented CSV datasets. Fantastic for teaching and testing! And {Rdatasets} is a new #RStats πŸ“¦ for easy download and search Web archive: vincentarelbundock.github.io/Rdatasets R πŸ“¦: vincentarelbundock.github.io/Rdatasetspkg
