Let's avoid any public transit cuts in #Winnipeg.#WinnipegTransit www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

Transit agencies must do everything possible to avoid service cuts. Longer waits and reduced networks push even low-income riders to get a car – and to abandon transit for good. Me in Bloomberg CityLab 🧵

Jagmeet Singh, for his political faults, is a real human. Respect for that.

Some communities in Nunavik weren't able to cast votes because of weather and staffing issues at polling stations. We need to do better than this nunatsiaq.com/stories/arti...

Quick thoughts on the Canadian election: Another minority government. A World Cup election next year. Mark my words.

🔥 WATCH: Bernie sweeps aside Senator Slotkin saying Dems should stop talking about fighting the oligarchy because people don’t understand. Of course people get it. And if they don’t, you don’t stop saying it. You say it until they do. #FightTheOligarchy 🇺🇸

I think it’s pretty fair for people who have been the targets of driver violence to question the early denials of terrorism as a possible motive in the Vancouver attack. If you’ve seen cops pal around with a person who just drove through a crowd of your friends, you might question their assumptions.

Plus we will have our own show specific incentives including, shout outs and an opportunity to be a guest, draws to win books and a Peggo Card. Stay tuned for more info over the next few days. #Winnipeg #UMFM #NNTA

Breaking News from @theathleticfc.bsky.social: Liverpool was crowned the Premier League champion after defeating Tottenham Hotspur 5-1. This brings them level with Manchester United as the most successful side in English top-flight history with 20 titles.

Pope Francis spoke often about the importance of environmental stewardship in a way none of his predecessors had, connecting climate change to social inequities: cnn.it/4jnHRbX

This is tragic. Just awful.

:(

But what about that carbon tax? www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

I agree with this. It makes sense. Hudson's Bay company should do this. Its the right thing to do. www.winnipegfreepress.com/business/202...

Leah Gazan is a champion for human rights and an incredible leader in general. The world needs more like her. Please Reelectleahgazan.ca for Winnipeg Centre!

Found this while walking tonight in #Winnipeg. This sums up the Janice Lukes #ActiveTransportation town hall.

Here were some highlights from the Day 1 session of the MMF climate symposium.

Went to the Active Transportation Janice Lukes Active Transportation/Road Safety session this morning and then went to the MMF climate symposium this afternoon. Both are interlinked in my opinion, despite what you might first look at it.

The oligarchy is in fine swing.

Bikes are hope.

The tininess of the AT branch explains why they forgot to include the 2006 Winnipeg Police attack on Critical Mass that led to the formation of Bike to the Future, now @bikewinnipeg.bsky.social

Blaming the “funding model” for the budget choices is a cop out. The funding model is the same as other Canadian municipalities, yet those councils make better choices for road safety #winnipeg #wpgpoli

Zeteo commissioned this poll from Data for Progress and it is pretty clear that the Democratic base prefers the progressive/leftist position on every issue from Israel-Palestine to healthcare to even immigration. Full poll results and analysis: zeteo.com/p/exclusive-...

Happy Independent Bookstore Day! It’s also my first book’s birthday—‘FIGHT LIKE HELL: The Untold History of American Labor’ came out on April 26, 2022, and it’s been an absolute wild ride ever since. Buy it here on Bookshop to support the ILWU Local 5 strike fund! bookshop.org/p/books/figh...

Personally I would be embarrassed, as a city leader, to solicit praise for setting a five-year target for reducing road death that doesn’t even meet levels we experienced three years ago.

Meanwhile in Winnipeg we are still at the “towards zero” approach which based on actions thus far means we are thinking about it. There is much to be done but reducing residential speeds to 30 kph would be a start. @safespeedswpg.bsky.social

Happy Independent Bookstore Day to all who observe! Our new book, "Life After Cars: Freeing Ourselves from the Tyranny of the Automobile," is now available for pre-order. bookshop.org/a/9252/97805...

Janice Luke's attitude towards the crowd at the #ActiveTransportation #Winnipeg town hall has been just pure hostile.
