Very interested in what people think of the new Observer under Tortoise Media? There's something about it I don't like - a cheapening of the writing, a tabloid feeling - when you get to quality people like Rawnsley you think, "you still here?"

Nominal determinism corner: a minor gripe with Shakespeare's Globe was answered courteously and quickly by a young functionary called... Will

This from @roisinlanigan.bsky.social in today's @theobserveruk.bsky.social. Odd that they didn't update - the new Pope was elected days before it went to press

Imagine getting this sort of praise from this collection of writers

Fascinating listening to Rishi Sunak on @bbcradio4.bsky.social. Decent, thoughtful, smart, nerdy - seems like a voice from another age. I like the convo about Englishness. "Of course I'm English," as if, what a daft question

Brilliant & fearless article from my friend Christian Holthausen

1993 to 2017. The first (and last - there were only 400 halves of the 93 and it's almost gone) full vertical of the extraordinary elixir Royal Tokaji Essencia. Story to come on @cluboenologique.bsky.social
