Zotero rules, browser plugin integration was seamless on windows, linux and mac for me

just your daily reminder that GO annotations are plagued with crap. I was going through some of the proteins annotated as 'Nuclear membrane' and you get GAPDH, ENO1, MX1... Don't trust these annotations. Curate them yourself, as painful as it is, it is worth it for data quality

In humans, there are 5 acrocentric chromosomes, but only chromosomes 13, 14 and 21 occasionally pair and form metacentric chromosomes termed Robertsonian. To find out why, read this amazing preprint from Gernot lab: www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...

A rebuttal of the paper that looked at historical samples and found evidence of natural selection due to the Black Death at immune loci. Multiple lines of evidence, incl that observed freq changes were an artefact. By Alison Barton, @mathiesoniain.bsky.social et al www.nature.com/articles/s41...

Post-doc opportunity in neurogenetics. Wellcome funded, to investigate molecular switch between brain plasticity and degeneration. In beautiful University of Birmingham campus, lively city, UK. Drosophila, behaviour, imaging. International lab. Application deadline 19 March. #Drosophila #post-doc

Hehe, found an outdated section in the relatively recent textbook on molecular biology: if you google "industrial revolution and moths" you'll find a treasure trove of articles about 'most recent natural selection event', but as brilliant study from Tian and co showed (1/2)

Remember that Europe (@ebi.embl.org) has mirrored all these services and they will keep on running. They look and feel a bit different but do the same thing. I think @ewanbirney.bsky.social should be able to confirm. www.europepmc.org www.ebi.ac.uk/jdispatcher/...

Check out our new preprint describing CiFi - a method that couples 3C and PacBio HiFi sequencing with low input requirements. We apply it to human GM12878 to better characterize chromatin across repetitive regions, as well as single insect samples (a mosquito and a Mediterranean fruit fly).

It took me about 1 minute to choose this preprint for the journal club. We've known for a long time about HP1 and SetDB1 major roles in heterochromatin formation and spreading but their interaction via a histone mimic motif in SetDB1 is a genuinely exciting finding

A lot of people who don’t “believe “ in climate change are about to find out that their insurance company does.

Reminds me of a guy I knew.

🚨PhD studentship opportunity! Bacteria protect themselves with a huge arsenal of defences, but does this affect how they gain new traits on plasmids? 🧫🦠💫 Apply for a funded 4y position with me @livuni-ives.bsky.social, @brockhurstlab.bsky.social @jojofoth.bsky.social & @multidefence.bsky.social ⬇️

Mesmerizing visualization 😵‍💫😍

This study investigates the role of Caspar in regulating the number of primordial germ cells that form during Drosophila embryogenesis.

If you've never donated to Wikipedia, now's the time. Elon Musk is attacking it because it's one of the only sources of honest, curated information that he can't control. www.newsweek.com/elon-musk-ta...

How does the ORF1p perform its multiple functions to facilitate LINE1 retrotransposition? And what enables its ability to also facilitate replication of other retrotransposons? Find out in our newly published paper in Nucleic Acids Research doi.org/10.1093/nar/...

Delighted to share our new preprint on the cell biology and genome of Stentor pyriformis, a giant ciliate that maintains Chlorella endosymbionts in surface-associated microtubule baskets. www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...

🧪1/ 🚨New paper on ecDNAs from our lab! We reveal a strategy to engineer extrachromosomal DNA (ecDNA) amplifications in cells & mice. Let's dive in! Let’s dive in! 🧵👇 www.nature.com/articles/s41...

Join our team www.jansenlab.org as a @wellcometrust.bsky.social -funded postdoctoral fellow and help us discover how chromatin at human centromeres is formed and inherited. Position now open at @oxfordbiochemistry.bsky.social! See: my.corehr.com/pls/uoxrecru... for details!

Realized that a couple of avid posters completely obliterated my 'following' feed to the point when I miss some interesting stuff from my colleagues. A lesson to beware terminally online people, even among science people

According to this BMI chart… I need to get a lot taller.

Second best (but still magnificent) album that came up the year I was born is keeping me company while I'm painstakingly preparing a poster today

Today at MBW we were visited by a recent Nobel laureate (Chemistry for AlphaFold2) John Jumper and he gave a very nice and informative talk about AF development from the 1st to the 3rd version with a nice informal session just for young researchers afterwards.

Adobe users: it’s the most beautiful time of the year, where you can threaten to cancel your plan and get the price cut down from $59.99 to $29.99 for the next 12 months ✨ Manage plan-> cancel my plan -> continue and then you get this offer: (more)

A very entertaining paper to run a lab paper discussion group on! academic.oup.com/mbe/article/...

Coding in Python and looking to perform bulk RNA sequencing analysis? With pytximport recently published in Bioinformatics and version 0.11.0 out today with many improvements, it’s time for my first Bluetorial! A thread 🧵 (1/12)

Not surprising sadly, but still oof: Functional R code is rare in species distribution and abundance papers esajournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/...

Great opportunity to do a #PhD with me! Think #Drosophila #eyes are fun to work with? Love to do #microscopy? Want to look into organ size regulation and evolution? Maybe even in a pest species? Get in touch and check out how to apply via Oxford Brookes University: tinyurl.com/37h7pudv

(please amplify) 4% of scientists face an important barrier to an the ENTIRE FIELD of single-cell genomics and here is why

Scientists, academics, researchers: We’re excited to share that @altmetric.com is now tracking mentions of your research on Bluesky! 🧪

Thrilled to present our latest BioRXiv on brain/body interactions during defensive freezing behaviour! (www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...). You might think that a frozen animal has, well, frozen muscle activity, right? Wrong! Underneath the still surface of a fly, something in the legs is beating… 🧵

New postdoc program opening soon at SciLifeLab! Feel free to contact me if you are interested in doing a postdoc related to rare RNAs in single-cells, environmental samples or extinct animals 🧬
