Yeah, I’m a post doc; a doctor of posting

My ancestors crossed the Atlantic three centuries ago and I am an American in the exact same way as the infant child of undocumented immigrants born here yesterday. There is no difference between us, their right to this country no less than mine. We are entirely equal and I will accept nothing else.

It’s really wild how there is no reason to deport anyone, let alone children and US citizens and LPRs and students and people undergoing cancer treatment etc. it’s all a fake solution to a made up problem enacted by violent racists who are stealing from you

"Oh cool what is it about?"

#OnThisDay 1987 : The first episode of ALF was broadcast in the UK on ITV. There was 4 series in total. #80s (TV Listing courtesy of @woodg31.bsky.social)

AOC: I saw on Fox, Jeanine Pirro says that they found so many babies and two year olds and four year olds receiving social security. I got a notice for you Jeanine Pirro: those babies receive social security because their parents died. That’s not a waste. That’s humanity. That’s America.

Trump's "winning"

plenty of bands are distinctive, but few are singular. Pere Ubu was one.

R.I.P. David Thomas, a brilliant musician. Got to see him play once, long ago, and wish I'd seen him more.

David Thomas, anarchic Pere Ubu bandleader, dies aged 71

Love waking up to find my phone's UI has changed. What fun! Android developers, keep it coming.

This statement about the transphobic Supreme Court ruling by the UK's Crab Museum (yes a museum about crabs) is better than 99% of the statements I've seen on the topic www.crabmuseum.org/visit 🦀🦀🦀🦀🦀🦀🦀🦀

If sugar were poison I’d be dead by now

William Shakespeare was born and also died on April 23rd. Incredible to think he wrote all those plays in just one day.

Okay English lit buffs, I have a quick question: Daniel Deronda starts in medias res and then flashes back a year. This is of course an extremely common device (esp in TV) now, but was this a thing writers were doing a lot in the 1870s?

Coming October 21st... "Life After Cars: Freeing Ourselves from the Tyranny of the Automobile." A new book about how cars ruin everything and what we can do to fight back. Pre-order here: www.lifeaftercars.com

What are those strange small round objects in front of the butter?

Someone on Threads noticed you can type any random sentence into Google, then add “meaning” afterwards, and you’ll get an AI explanation of a famous idiom or phrase you just made up. Here is mine

RFK Jr.’s aunt Rosemary Kennedy was institutionalized and kept away from the family. Her own father never visited and her mother didn’t see her for 20 years. That might explain why Mr. Kennedy didn’t hear these terms when he was a kid.

A TPM Reader shared this graph with me which strongly suggests that border immigration surges recently, which spur so many conspiracy theories in this country, are driven by periods of acute labor shortages in the US. talkingpointsmemo.com/edblog/its-t...

‘If all of the people who hate Ishtar had seen it I’d be a rich woman today.’ Elaine May is 93

this would solve all my problems

The Cook, The Thief, His Wife, His Brother, and His Lawyer

I did not expect that.

This is literally a quote from the satirical comic strip "The Wizard of Id," which focused on a "tyrannical, dwarfish monarch...ruling a rundown and oppressed shabby kingdom." economicsociology.org/2015/08/28/r...

Every so often, the craving returns.
