This is frustrating. It seems, on this old chromebook, I can have sound, or I can have the numeric keypad on the built-in keyboard, but I cannot have both at the same time. FreeBSD had the keypad, but no sound. Linux has sound, but no keypad. Grrr.

Yesterday I posted about installing #FreeBSD to an old #Chromebook. It works. It's faster than #ChromeOS and #Fedora were. It's got an inconvenient drawback (at the moment) in that (I believe) #ACPI isn't properly implemented in the custom #BIOS I had to install, which means when I close the […]

Running #FreeBSD on a very old #Chromebook IT's MUCH faster than Fedora was.

Wow... The world has gone crazy. In Troy, MI, one of the more affluent Detroit suburbs, there was a shooting at a HOSPITAL this morning. There appears to have been only one target, and there is currently only one person shot. I mean, if I were to be shot (again) it'd be convenient to already […]

Wow... I just reformatted my resume to be more "ATS Compliant"... It gave me a little PTSD to do so. Within an hour of posting the new version to LinkedIn, Dice, Monster, Indeed, etc, I'm all of a sudden getting a flood of emails with vague Job Descriptions and requirements such as […]

Mom is out of surgery and recovery. Taking her home now. It's nice to ba bale to do these things for her, even if I wish I didn't have to.

just bumped #glitchsoc up to the latest. No complaints so far.

The wind died down, the sun came out, and I was able to trim the #OCFD #antenna for my #HF #HAMradio operations... This is post-choke install, and post trim of the long side of the Off-Center Fed Doublet. I cut about a foot off of it, and BAM! the […] [Original post on mastodon.ai8w.ddns.net]

Got the #RF choke up at the #antenna feedpoint, finally. This took the coax shield out of the antenna itself, turning it back into transmission line, which is the desired setup. Now I'm running a #NanoVNA analysis on this OCFD, and it's telling me […] [Original post on mastodon.ai8w.ddns.net]

I have lost almost all motivation to be productive today. Actually, I've been suffering from this for the last couple of weeks. I'm sure I'll snap out of it eventually, hoping sooner rather than later, but hope levels are low, and I've run out of spoons.

A friend of mine posted this on another platform. I couldn't agree more. Thing is, we're still brothers and sisters 30 years later.

#Truthdrops #Irony #Funny #Politics #WorldWide Honestly, it does feel like all sides are pointing fingers at "Russian Bots" for everything. I know they exist, but they seem to be the generic excuse for EVERYTHING.

#Funny #TruthDrops #Ukraine I laughed, but only because I'm in Michigan.

How to keep #RF from getting into the #shack, #HAMradio edition. I built a #choke to filter the #CommonMode #current off the coax shield. This box will eventually be moved outside to the #OCFD feed point (well , I'm going to put a stub up so I can […] [Original post on mastodon.ai8w.ddns.net]

One of these days I'm going to remember to boost the number of (allowed) housekeeper processes on my Zabbix installation - these alerts are getting... repetitive.

Well, I'm not impressed with Fedora 41 on this Chromebook.. Yes, it's a celeron 4020 with only 4 GB RAM, but it should be faster than this. Granted, Fedora is faster than ChromeOS was on this thing, but I can't help but think that a lighter distro, such as Debian, or (if it still exists) […]

Just spent two hours calling CQ on 20, 15, and 10m (different bands at different times, not simultaneously, silly!) zero answers. There's gotta be a way to get more (polite!) ops on CW....

Well, there's a station I can't remember ever hitting before.. shame it's in Russia...

How to make your buddies some money: 1) get elected as President of the United States. 2) declare tariffs on long-standing trading-partner countries. 3) let the news crash the stock market. 4) watch all your buddies buy up the (now) cheaper stocks. 5) publicly back off on your tariffs idea 6) […]

Turns out the nih.gov issue over last weekend was TLD wide (all of .gov), and was part of "scheduled maintenance"...

I'm bringing my server down so I can more cleanly migrate its drive to the fileserver.

This month is starting out poorly.

I don't want to wish anyone ill... even those working against me.. but I laughed WAY too hard at this.

Ok... so.. The server was down most of today... and I think my relays have hiccoughed... Did I miss anything fun?

I know I'm jinxing myself, but ever since I took Uniblab out of service and put Deepthought into service (as my fileserver at home) I've had almost zero alerts from my Zabbix monitoring. Just noticed this, which means something will shortly go very wrong.

I'm not writing this to brag. I recently ran across someone on a local community (on facebook) who needed brakes done on the rear axle of her car. She had the parts already. I told her I'd do it for whatever she thought was fair. She asked me for a price. I told her if $50 for the labor […]

Well, that wasn't fun... No, I'm not sharing.

Quick #glitchsoc question. I just got a release announcement for 4.3.4.. My server is running 4.4.0.alpha2+glitch Is 4.3.4 the preferred version, or should I stick with what I've got, or are they the same thing, just labeled differently? If they're different, which version SHOULD I be running?

... back on the job market.

I love how easy it's gotten to get unwanted posts and traffic off my server. Try to crack a silly joke, and the racists, etc, come out of the woodwork.

I just got told that my rack is sexy, and I know exactly how to feel about it! Heh. The rack that holds my computers you sickos... :)

Got #XASTIR and my #APRS station back up and running. It's nice to get back on the air. It's also nice to be able to just copypasta configs after installing the software and have it come up like it's supposed to.)

Partial results from yesterday's work relocating the server rack. I'm not disappointed at all. There are a few ethernet runs that need to be re-done (because they don't reach), but aside from that, I've got no complaints. #homelab #blinkenlights

Servers are back up and running.

Initiating a complete system shutdown to relocate the server rack. I should (hopefully) be back up again in a few hours.... ...not that anyone will notice that a single-user instance has gone poof off the fediverse, but just in case...
