oh my god lmao

"Before you support a law, especially one claiming to 'protect kids online', think about how the worst people you could imagine will use that law."

One of hundreds of people abducted by ICE and sold to slavery in El Salvador was a 19 year old with no criminal record in the US or Venezuela and no tattoos of any kind. An ICE kidnapper who grabbed him outside his house said, "He's not the one." The other said, "Take him anyway." So they did.

With time, they will absolutely have more than that. But right now they are enormously vulnerable and they’re really hoping no one notices—if they’re even aware of it, which they may not be because they’re likely in that much of a bubble

NPR is a fascist propaganda machine, example 5001:

republicans are disappearing people under the guise of fighting antisemitism and can’t even pretend to give a fuck when a jewish governor’s house gets firebombed on passover

They want you to be ok with this shit. That's why they keep talking about "toxic empathy," the "sin of empathy." They want you to silence your own basic human morality and replace it with their violent, racist, cult ideology.

Steven Miller’s new theory, that a "saboteur," "Democrat" DOJ atty invented the idea that Abrego Garcia was mistakenly removed to CECOT—is false. The error was admitted, on 3/31, by Robert Cerna, an ICE acting field office director: 1/3 storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

Great work by the Harvard community pushing the admin to finally think about fighting back. "The university will not surrender its independence or relinquish its constitutional rights. Neither Harvard nor any other private university can allow itself to be taken over by the federal government."

There's so much to be mad about but nothing has caused my blood to absolutely boil more than watching two so-called "world leaders" lie that an innocent good father and husband and hard-working union apprentice is a "terrorist." I hope these monsters burn in hell

lol

Thread and then the nested thread. Read both

So Ireland voted against sharing info that would prevent migrants from drowning, but will do so to protect undersea cables? Grand so.

damocles, dude, you absolutely cannot put your sword there. come on man

all the right-wing billionaires furiously fund astroturf, as usual every accusation is a confession

it was fairly irritating to watch all of these dudes insist that it was vital for society and the marketplace of ideas to bring back and discuss phrenology, yes

I was recently asked if I needed to update anything from this triage list I proposed two weeks after the election for how to best protect non-citizens through what we knew was coming. Honestly, not really. It's all been pretty much as expected, if a little faster. A few notes though:

If I never ever have to be part of or even watch another debate about which kind of queers are doing queerness correctly it will still be entirely too fucking soon

So I’ve mostly ignored this person, because obviously you wanna get on this app and say that matty et al are persecuted, you clearly have a humiliation thing going, and I don’t need to participate in that. But I do want to say something about this.

this guy... PLEASE do not rank him on your ballot, fellow New Yorkers. He's a clown. Put five other names on your ballot, none of them being his.

The only epidemic I see with autism is the lack of support that is available for autistic adults.

Well, at Rutgers we actually went on strike. Like picket lines and yelling and not going to work and getting a bunch of concessions from administration, so I guess your mileage varies based on where you are.

this is the MA legislature this state rep says can't be relied on to vote down an athlete ban btw:

This Tufts student was grabbed off the street, cuffed and taken out of state solely because she co-wrote a completely respectful oped in the student paper. And Rubio’s State Dept now admits they have nothing more damning than that. Gift link wapo.st/4j8d5Uh

this is like saying “neighborhoods shouldn’t be peaceful and fun. they all need a group of agitators who periodically break into everyone’s homes and say the stupidest fucking things because they have the right to say them. we would all have better neighborhoods if they were allowed to do that.”

"the state can just summarily imprison someone without filing charges or holding a trial" doesn't just overturn democracy it overturns 1000 years of common law, like throwing out the entire legal system entirely and saying all people in America are the state's property.

We read these ten "modern" plagues from this Haggadah (ccar) first published in 1974. Some years some feel more relevant, some years others. This year was difficult.

Many law firms have discovered two new kinds of pro bono: (1) Pro Bono-parte: pledging millions for the strongman. (2) Pro Bono-no: refusing to lift a finger against authoritarianism. If you’re not opposing autocracy, you’re enabling it. www.npr.org/2025/04/13/g...

I make a lot of edgy posts about what will happen after the revolution but the thing is this: we tried living with the fascists after the Second World War and look where we are. We need a better idea. Even if it doesn’t satisfy my lust for retributive oppression and revenge, we need a better idea.

There's this widespread finding that LLMs become increasingly degenerate as they consume their own input for training data and I feel like similar could be said for people.

White supremacy and capitalism have such a strong hold on American politics because they managed to implement a system that guarantees them a win no matter which one of the two options you vote for. The majority of US citizens will never have a voice unless they dismantle this duopoly.

The most accurate description of the U.S. I've ever heard, except I think that's what it already is.

Said this in a reply & seems useful to pull up: This is a global liquidity crisis & Trump's volatility is the core of the crisis. The stock market will continue to have turbulent swings up & swings down. I can't say how it will be resolved because no one knows & anyone who pretends to know is lying

No, we cannot switch to domestically-grown tea. Thank you to the few well-meaning few folks who have suggested we avoid 54% Chinese import tariffs by sourcing US-grown tea instead. 1️⃣ Commodity-volume tea of the variety and complexity of heritage growing regions simply does not exist here.

Update: KS, UT, and AR have passed bills in 2025 preventing the state from considering whether prospective foster or adoptive parents intend to affirm gay or trans children. OH, MO, IN, NC and SC are voting on similar bills; SC is currently working to give official priority to non-affirming parents.

At the very least this is a MASSIVE HIPAA violation and RFK Jr should be investigated for the unlawful release of a child’s private health information. Any physician would get fired and sued if they did this.

not only is hanania a literal turner diaries racist, but he's a terrible writer! like, genuinely bad at the craft of putting together a sentence for the purpose of expressing an idea. he certainly believe he is part of some cognitive elite, but the actual truth is that he's a no-shit dumbass.

They’re trying to throw out 60k votes in my state, which has ID requirements now and kneecapped early voting, because people had the audacity to vote for a Democratic judge. Some people definitely couldn’t be bothered to vote, I’m pretty sure I know some of them. But some also simply couldn’t.
