Police investigating death of Bridgewater woman as case of intimate partner violence www.halifaxexaminer.ca/women/police... by @dentremy.bsky.social

‘Absolutely horrific’ www.ctvnews.ca/toronto/arti...

Halifax desperately needs care-based options for emergency response.

To all observing from this evening, Ramadan Mubarak. May your fasts be accepted, your prayers answered.

For our monthly social meal at The Sunflower, this month, we have some treats from Efty Dishes to celebrate African Heritage Month.

“Enjoy the work. Don’t get tired.” Our coworker Dolly Williams opening day 2 at the Pan-Canadian Voice for Women’s Housing. Acting to realize the right to housing.

“You can’t have Housing First without having housing, comma, first” @cwhitzman.bsky.social to the Pan Canadian Voice for Women’s Housing.

Standing together with survivors, advocates and all those experiencing gender based violence, we also remember those lost to intimate partner homicides, their families and communities. We must do better.

Policy failures: "Bloomfield, St. Pat’s–Alexandra, Shannon Park — that long ago should have been developed quickly with affordable housing, but which have been sitting abandoned for decades. This reflects the unwillingness of governments to build affordable public housing" @timbousquet.bsky.social

We were blown away by Euphoria! and immensely grateful to the Dal Medicine Students’ Society. They put on a fantastic show filled with laughter & music & dancing, and raised $60,000+ in support of Adsum’s work. Congratulations and thank you all! @dalhousieu.bsky.social

Grateful @msvuhalifax.bsky.social for bringing folks together to explore how to prevent & treat moral injury at work, those assaults to the soul when we do things, observe stuff, or cannot stop things that violate deeply held values. And thanks artist Rachel Derrah for capturing the conversations.

As we approach mid-month it’s crucial that we recognize February is African Heritage Month (also known as Black History Month).  We honour the history, culture and livelihood of the Black and African Nova Scotian community. Visit our website for the latest blog post.

From @dartjenhen.bsky.social : "Houston govt announces largest capital program in NS’s history at $2.35 billion. More than $1B in 2025-26 for hospitals & healthcare. Adding $136 million to create 242 new public housing units over the next several yrs in addition to 222 units previously announced"

Grateful to these amazing volunteers from Fairview Junior High. Thank you Tristan, Jonah, Stuart, Gavin & Mark for organizing this new space for us.

Tony Mancini: Police, HRM, residents, elected officials should apologize the 2021 evictions of homeless encampments Story by me www.halifaxexaminer.ca/government/c...

This data tells us that being a homeless woman on the street in Toronto is a short, violent life. Homeless women face especial trauma in the form of sexual violence and exploitation, which is often mitigated through drugs. There is a massive service gap for these women and they're dying as a result.

Call out for MEN’s winter coats. Aside from sheltering almost 200 people at The Bridge, community members are stopping by in need of winter coats. Please help if you can. Drop off anytime at 101 Wyse Road, Dartmouth.

Another day in Nova Scotia, another case of Intimate Partner Violence making headlines, as a woman is charged with attempted murder. halifax.citynews.ca/2025/01/25/w...

No one should be homeless, including former politicians. But it's disappointing that MPP Berardinetti's situation has become one of exceptionalism instead of a call for policy reform to reduce homelessness. And yet ... I'm the only person in this article saying so? www.thestar.com/news/gta/i-c...

Increasing the housing supply across the country and providing safe, affordable housing continues to be a top priority for organizations and communities. Grab tickets for this conversation - Exploring Housing Solutions: Innovations & Community Impact business.halifaxchamber.com/events/detai...

Thankful for this article. Showing people the very real tragic loss of mothers, sisters, aunts, friends, daughters. All that exuded so much light for others. www.thecoast.ca/news-opinion...

Weather looks brutal over the next few days. Any plans for warming centres, for people who are living outside without a safe indoor place to stay? @hfxgov.bsky.social @nsgov.bsky.social

Intimate partner violence. “People don't want to talk about this and that's why we need to continue talking about this. That's part of the cultural shift that is needed,” Kristina Fifield, social worker. t.co/43JjAZTVcY

Nova Scotia advocates call on province to act immediately on intimate partner violence epidemic www.halifaxexaminer.ca/women/nova-s... By @dentremy.bsky.social

Intimate partner violence: we need a society-wide response atlantic.ctvnews.ca/we-all-have-...

Immediate Action Needed, Nova Scotia @nsgov.bsky.social

What is happening, Nova Scotia, with this escalation in violence? www.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/en/news/2025...

Tonight, Monday. Support for community members impacted by the tragic losses of Cora Lee Smith and Bradford Downey. What: Night of Caring for community members impacted by trauma Where: North Preston Recreation Center, 44 Simmonds Road, North Preston When: Monday, January 6th, 6:30 – 8:00 pm

We’re heading into a more wintry weekend with nighttime temperatures dropping to windchills of -16. What are the plans for warming centres for our neighbours staying outdoors? @hfxgov.bsky.social @nsgov.bsky.social

In 2025 income assistance in NS will be tied to consumer price index but ⁦it’s not nearly enough.⁩ "It is a moral failure that we have this level of poverty in our province” says ⁦ @feednovascotia ‘Bold’ policies incl a living wage are what’s needed. www.thecanadianpressnews.ca/business/sta...?

Demonstrating yet again that intimate partner violence is a public safety issue.

“The homicides are believed to be incidents of intimate partner violence…police are not looking for any other suspects.” Another case in Nova Scotia w/ devastating consequences. Those holding power need to act to prevent gender-based violence and respond to this epidemic.

What a night to be outside, Halifax.

Our municipality, our province, our society must do better to ensure the safety and dignity of all members of our community. atlantic.ctvnews.ca/more/sister-...

So much of our work is because of you and your support, and the commitment of Adsum staff & volunteers. Thank you for helping us to bring hope and tangible support including housing & other essentials. We hope that the year ahead will bring peace, safety and dignity to all.

No one should have to live, and die, whilst living in a tent in Nova Scotia. Yet it continues to happen. I really hope we have not normalized this.

Yet another man living outside in a tent has died in Nova Scotia. Our thoughts are with his friends & family & anyone having to stay in a tent. Halifax Regional Police say they found a 56-yr-old man deceased when called to Geary St, Dartmouth yesterday. The cause of death is being investigated.

Today marks the 1st day of Kwanzaa and the first principle Umoja meaning Unity. Sending best wishes to all those celebrating.

On this 1st night of Chanukah, wishing light, love and peace to all who celebrate.

Peace everywhere, for everyone. To all who celebrate, Merry Christmas.

‘These numbers represent lives lost, with lasting and profound impacts on families and communities across Canada.’ #ToxicDrugCrisis

I know many who are navigating grief, something that so often accompanies (and/or is magnified by) this time of year. Be gentle with yourselves, and each other.

We should not accept that people go to bed without a roof over their heads In any weather. What’s the plan for Nova Scotians who are unhoused to stay safe from frigid conditions today thru tmrw that expose them to added harms?
