1/ Today, we mark the 60th anniversary of Bloody Sunday. On March 7, 1965, peaceful protesters were brutally attacked in Selma, Alabama, simply for demanding the right to vote. It was a pivotal moment in the fight for civil rights. But let’s be clear: The struggle isn’t over. #Selma60

Universities nationwide used pro-Palestine protests to expand surveillance, @shayssen.bsky.social reports. New technology & support from law enforcement & federal agencies allow universities to monitor student activists like never before. prismreports.org/2025/02/26/u...

The confirmation of Linda McMahon as Secretary of Education reveals this administration’s end game. Trump and his allies hope to destroy our public institutions in order to make themselves wealthier, leaving working class families and communities of color with fewer resources and support.

The Trump administration’s transfer of ICE detainees to federal prisons — like the former U.S. Penitentiary in Atlanta, is disrupting access to legal counsel, heightening deportation risks, and exposing immigrants to inhumane conditions, sparking outrage among advocates and attorneys.

#KNOWYOURRIGHTS: WARRANTS Remember: ICE agents normally have administrative warrants. These do NOT give them the authority to enter your home or carry out arrest, but they will try to convince you it does. Scroll through for important info to look out for ⬇️

Linda McMahon's confirmation hearings start Thursday, and we know what's coming—slashes to funding for smaller class sizes, support, and free meals for hungry students—all to fund another handout for billionaires. We won't stay silent. If you are in the DC area, join us Wednesday: bit.ly/4jJDXLb

The school surveillance industry is worth over $3 billion— monitoring and interpreting data to control, punish, criminalize, police, and profit off of students, families, and communities. Know your rights and fight back against the school surveillance state with our newest zine! #PoliceFreeSchools

The man behind Project 2025 and Trump’s Medicaid, school lunch, and veteran service freeze is up for an important government role. There are going to be key moments where we ask the people to step in. This is one. Call/email your senator NOW: wfpus.org/NoOnVought

"Most of the power of authoritarianism is freely given. In times like these, individuals think ahead about what a more repressive government will want, and then offer themselves without being asked."  -Timothy Snyder   Always speak truth to power and do not give authoritarians what they want.

Two federal judges have temporarily blocked the Bureau of Prisons from implementing Trump's anti-trans executive order citing the 8th amendment prohibition on cruel and unusual punishment. We will continue fighting for our trans and nonbinary community behind bars while we work towards abolition.

This is an important step to stop Trump's white supremacy playbook. By attempting to deny citizenship to children born on U.S. soil to non-citizen parents, the administration tried to undermine the 14th amendment. Trump may be president, but he does not have the power to rewrite the Constitution.

Trayvon’s life was taken by a white vigilante w/ self-imposed power as an extension of the police state, and his tragic murder ignited a movement that woke up millions in defense of Black life. We owe it to him to stand tall and fight for the world they deserved. We need you. Happy Birthday Trayvon🕊️

To those who have upheld culture and built possibilities where none were offered. To those who have fought, created, and demanded a future where Black trans lives not only exist but thrive. We are here because of you. Happy Black History Month.

An important thread from our Deputy Director @carmen.advancementproject.org on the expedited need to abolish the prison-industrial complex as an organized response to the recent anti-trans executive orders.

This #BlackHistoryMonth the Haitian Bridge Alliance team honors our ancestors—their resilience, their revolutionary achievements, and their lasting impact.

On the first day of Black History Month, Rev. Al Sharpton convened a special Civil Rights Summit including Advancement Project Executive Director @jbrownedianis.bsky.social to talk about how to fight for our rights under a second Trump Administration.

#tdih 1960, four African-American NC A&T students began a sit-in (planned at Bennett College) at a Woolworth’s lunch counter in Greensboro. While not first sit-in of modern CRM, it triggered wave of direct action U.S. & founding of SNCC. 🧵#TeachTruth www.zinnedproject.org/news/tdih/gr...

The Educational Choice for Children Act would divert over $21 billion in tax dollars to affluent families and exasperate inequalities in education, disproportionately impacting Black students & students from low-income families. Say NO to the ECCA this #SchoolChoiceWeek at novouchers.org

I wrote about the importance of defending sanctuary cities and why any policy that make it harder for ICE to detain or deport people is worth fighting for. truthout.org/articles/let...

E-hall passes, cameras, online monitoring— school surveillance is so pervasive one study found that 89% of teachers surveyed used software to track their students’ activity. Learn how to spot the apparatuses of the school surveillance state and fight back with our new zine! #PoliceFreeSchools

The Trump administration has no respect for democracy and wants to uphold white supremacy at any cost. Their intentions with a rapidly shifting Department of Justice are clear – abuse power to attack our election system, disenfranchise and criminalize voters, and target communities of color.

From waiting for the bus to doing homework in the evening, students are under frequent surveillance in ways that are often hard to see. Our new zine sheds light on the sprawling school surveillance state and gives you the resources to know your rights, get organized, & fight back! #PoliceFreeSchools

BREAKING: This AM we filed a lawsuit on behalf of 4 grassroot groups against the Trump admin’s plans to carry out raids in Chicago. Trump is trying to destroy the sanctuary movement and make an example of Chicago. We’re asking for an emergency hearing ASAP. Lawsuit here: bit.ly/chicagolawsuit

This has been a week of an administration that has tried to create chaos, stoke fear, and target our communities. But as @jbrownedianis.bsky.social said at the #PeoplesMarch: "A new world may feel light-years away, but do not despair. We know it is possible. And that is always worth fighting for."

I and many others warned that the anti-CRT, anti-DEI propaganda campaign that so many embraced or down played was always about creating the narrative for and paving the way for a larger attack on civil rights. We are here.

MAJOR GA session update! 3 key constitutional amendments have made it through the House and Senate. Here's the full rundown:

Private prisons are rejoicing at the prospect of S5 being signed into law. S5 would target thousands more people into a deadly immigration detention system. Before it reaches Trump’s desk, the House will vote today or Thursday. 🚨TAKE ACTION: actionnetwork.org/letters/no-t...
