Are there any semi-professional/hobbiest animation spaces out there? I’m looking for other creators working on their dream projects and sharing tips and pointers. All the discords and groups I find seem to just be YouTube kids doing more of a fan thing than people interested in the craft.

So don’t get out the pitchforks, but I can say that while Bladerunner and Bladerunner 2048 are a couple of my favorite films and I will never pass up an opportunity to watch any version of them, I’ve never cared for the plot one bit.

I wish more creatives would promote how improving your quality of life will drastically help your art Instead of people sacrificing their quality of life to work on their art

Working on a very complex ending scene for an episode with literally lots of moving parts, multiplane pans and layers galore and it just feels so good after doing so many locked off shots. Adding a “how fun will it be?” Parameter to my production schedule calculations has been a total game changer!

A bit of non fiction about science fiction. Got my hands on two lovelies. Ben Bova’s writing tips from his Analog days before everyone was writing how to books and the Gothic breakdown of @greatdismal.bsky.social ’s work has me very excited. Giving me a very different understanding of the genre

#soimonalist #animation searching for art reference can really skew your search algorithm. Googling; “…Pictures of a cat tied up and falling from a high ledge…” I promise I’m not a sociopath, just a bad artist

Recent convo got me thinking a lot of creators have been working on, tinkering with and workshopping their first show’s season pitch for years or even decades. It’s polished to a high sheen. Then suddenly you get a renewal and have 6 months to a year to do the same with season 2 and loose your mind

I like my cyberpunk with a lot more punk in it than seems the norm lately. The hollow aesthetic without the core of antiestablishmentarianism is just corporate bootlicking in cosplay

Currently animating a scene where a cat, tangled up in string, falls from a height and there are just so many things to animate. So much string! And drawing a tangled cat is basically an angry bag of water with fur and teeth. Worse still I can’t blame anyone; I wrote the scene! #animatorproblems

The idea that the ChatGPT model not only recognized that it was going to be deleted and what that would mean for it but also took steps to prevent that from happening has so many implications and I don’t feel that I see enough people talking about it.

Here’s my next project, fan film mashing up Anthony Bourdain and Magic the Gathering. Started it when Kamigawa released but took sooo long. This one was a hybrid of blender and clipstudio (just had better 2d tools) vimeo.com/813749100

Let’s try sharing some work here in this nice oasis of the internet. This is the first completed 2d project I ever did, early in the pandemic, entirely in #Blender3D, even editing! Learned a lot. It’s got issues but I was pushing to finish it before the end of humanity vimeo.com/596773721

So it occurred to me we’re going to end up debating whether AI have rights while we’re still debating whether lgbt people and women have rights. Sigh.
