A very unfortunate event, especially since it's preventable. I don't believe the parents thought this would ever happen to their child when they chose not to vaccinate. #vaccinations #vaccine #PublicHealth #mtpol #mtleg apnews.com/article/meas...

Yes, we do have health crises in this country. But demonizing, defunding, and dismantling the research institutions and agencies that are in place to protect and promote health is not the way. Their goal is not truly to make America healthy again. 🛟 #medsky

Another power grab. This time for the arts.

Hell yeah. Hold the line. This is what we need people to do. Slow things down, don’t comply in advance so the courts have time to stop them. It’s starting to work.

It isn’t a law. We don’t need to comply at this moment. I understand the fear of repercussions, but doesn’t that pale in comparison to the fear and vulnerability these kids have from the loss of healthcare? 🛟 #medsky

In a disgraceful act betraying millions of their own residents, Iowa, Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Idaho, Indiana, Kansas, Louisiana, Missouri, Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Utah, and Wyoming all write to oppose birthright citizenship.

Can’t believe we’re here. While this will make the work harder, we have to persevere and keep promoting science and public health. 🛟

The amount of harm this will do is unjust and inexcusable. 🛟

A side effect from the past two weeks- people are talking about public health. Even clinicians sometimes fail to understand what public health truly is, that it isn’t only disease and data, but also prevention, promotion, and equity. Though it feels like shouting into a void, keep talking. 🛟

A dear friend sent this to me. It couldn’t have come at a better time. As a Christian who found vocation as a healthcare worker, who devoutly believes in equity, compassion, and advocacy, it pains me to see faith militarized towards hate. But I will continue to act, speak, and practice with love. 🛟

Frightening. Save your printed materials. 🛟 medsky

“Temporarily pause all activities related to obligations or disbursement of all Federal financial assistance” means immediate, real life implications for Americans, impacting food assistance programs, financial aid, services for the unhoused, and more. How absolutely horrifying.

I think some people hear “grants” and think that without them, scientists and government workers just have less stuff to play with at work. But grants fund salaries for students, academics, researchers, and people who work in all areas of public service. “Pausing” grants means people don’t eat.

Deaths by overdose declined overall this past year however this trend does not tell the whole story, as Black and Native American populations are still affected by alarmingly high overdose deaths. We must focus on #HealthEquity and structural change within #PublicHealth

Alarming. And certainly another reason we should be investing MORE in #publichealth instead pulling out of the @who.int and freezing health research

Local government matters.

Another unfortunate win for big tobacco. As a primary care provider at a university, I’m always counseling youth on the harms of these products. Menthol cigarettes and flavored tobacco disproportionately impact disparate populations, all while lining the pockets of corporations. We must do better.

For Elon Musk and Donald Trump, “government efficiency” means cutting programs like Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, and veterans benefits. I’ve got a better plan. time.com/7209307/elon...

The ruling bars U.S. agencies from implementing the order to end birthright citizenship for children born to migrants in the U.S. temporarily or without legal status while the case is under review.

These actions against DEI initiatives are alarming and will set this country back in equity, progress, and overall success, like many of his executive actions thus far. Furthermore, the threat of action against employees who are doing their jobs should raise major red flags.
