MIT Researchers trolled ChatGPT users who used ChatGPT to summarize their paper on the misuse of AI. Amazing

Farage and the far right in general come from a grievance culture. If you do what they want, even maximally – Brexit – they’ll move the goalposts and keep moaning. If you engage seriously with their concerns, they’ll find new ones. You will never satisfy them, because they don’t want to be satisfied

University reimagined as a Ricky Gervais stand-up routine. “Are you offended?!”

Look at what is happening to US universities under Trump. There, the erstwhile champions of "free speech on campus" are now either cheering on the regime's McCarthyism, or just keeping very quiet. There is a parallel moral panic in the UK and we should be clear-eyed about where that can lead.

Reminds me of a first-year philosophy argument: 1. If Starmer believes in anything, it’s international human rights law. 2. Starmer does not believe in human rights law. Therefore, 3. Starmer does not believe in anything.

Good to see @carladenyer.bsky.social and @zoejardiniere.bsky.social call for #UKHomeOffice reform today. Imagine if people like me and my partner didn't have to beg for exceptions to the cruel policies the system churns out. On that note, sign and share my petition if you can! See my 📌 for deets.

Hard to believe there was a general election and, notionally at least, a change of Government last year.

ICE just arrested Brad Lander, the NYC Comptroller and one of the leading candidates for Mayor, without grounds. He was conducting routine immigration court work, escorting individuals from hearings. He asked ICE for their warrant - well within his legal rights. This is political intimidation.

EXTREMELY ANNOYING The climate movement spent millions of $ over decades focusing on just transition, helping displaced workers, yet climate action still gets broadly criticised as causing 'job losses' Tech bros pop up saying "I WANT TO DESTROYJOBS ASAP" and get a glowing write-up in the NYT 🤨🧐🆒🗑️

Flakner: trans people will not be discriminated against and there will be no toilet police *less than an hour later in the same building Falkner’s allies she was hugging before the hearing put on their toilet police caps and terrorise a trans woman in the very building*

Every now and then I remember and have to reprocess how ridiculous the framing on British politics is Quite literally Labour today are just objectively worse for LGBT people than the last 5 Conservative governments were. And the last 3 Conservative governments were TERRIBLE for LGBT people

At the Beyoncé concert last night, there was literally a long line of women queueing inside the men’s toilets. A few raised eyebrows but nobody seemed especially fussed. Really brings home how confected the whole moral panic about toilets as sacred sex-segregated safe spaces is.

Amidst all the awful news this week, you may have missed that the party of workers, has become the party of the Broligarchs UK govt pushed back against an amendment that would protect the copyrights of musicians and creatives against AI sloplords www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

What personality are you? 🤪

Don’t think I’ve ever muttered the words “fuck me sideways” quite so much reading a story as this one.

Whenever anyone references what Duffield has "been through" they should be made to footnote examples because as far as I can tell she has been paid £90k a year to shitpost and block any criticism.

Judgement Day for the EHRC: How the equality watchdog turned into a toxic culture war campaign group iandunt.substack.com/p/judgement-...

It’s always embarrassing when barely controllable wingnuts speak on behalf of the movement with a cranky misreading of the position. Except of course in this case, the wingnuts are the national equality body and their position is if anything less wacky than what the movement wants and believes.

Meta AI's WHAT

Lynn's website was crucial as part of my journey coming out in the late 90s. I also owe much of the work I do to the technology that she helped to bring into existence.

Oh come on, Nia. The EHRC is an *extension* of government, whose chair it appoints. The current one was put in place by Liz Truss specifically to serve her own anti-equalities agenda.

This is absolutely extraordinary. As well as being a nasty bigot, she also has no idea what she's talking about.

After teaching translation for a few years now, my best advice to would-be translators is to get better at writing in English. The majority of issues I see in my students' work are not TL-specific problems like misunderstanding the source text, but basic English writing errors.

I’m watching parliament’s women and equalities committee grill Baroness Falkner and the EHRC so you don’t have to, follow along with this thread for a summary of what’s said

We're moved by the stunning photo essay by Frankie MIlls which powerfully demonstrates the pain couples and families in our community and across the UK suffer at the hand of the cruel and hostile UK family migration system. #FamiliesBelongTogether www.theguardian.com/artanddesign...

"Vivian Taylor, a climate policy expert who co-authored the analysis, said the fossil fuel industry has a real interest in funding panic over transgender people: It distracts the public from 'the very real and ongoing risks that climate change creates.'" heated.world/p/fossil-fue...

When the Greens said this, nothing. When the LibDems spoke up about how bad it was Labour were dropping this, nothing. Reform back it and its even a headline in the fucking Guardian. www.theguardian.com/environment/...

Wow, not sure I could bring myself to be as gracious to Starmer as Cashman is, given that Starmer suspended his whip for (rightly!) criticising the odious Rosie Duffield.

Has Luke done anything to stand up to his own government rolling back progress and making things worse for trans people? If not it is deeply hypocritical for him to march – and shameful in any case for York Pride to allow Labour banners on the parade.

Any Labour MP wishing happy pride without vocally opposing their own party’s persecution of trans people is basically gaslighting by this point.

Just here to add to the well-deserved ratio

Being snooty about protestors when the major topics being protested in the uk are the core topics you could score voters on this is not just mean spirited but also terrible tactics innit

our vision is that everyone is forced to buy a chatbot, says owner of chatbot factory

When Kinnock says Labour has moved too far to the right you know we’re in new territory www.prospectmagazine.co.uk/politics/lab...

It is absolutely intolerable that the Labour Government has another committed transphobe as their preferred candidate as new head of the EHRC. I rather doubt that the Women's and Equalities Committee has even been consulted.
