I only get maybe three or four a year, but ocular migraines are really weird. Parts of my vision stop registering, I get dizzy and unable to think. Then two to three hours of complete exhaustion, before I'm completely fine... Until the next day when my personality goes blank. Then finally alright.

Sudeikis has to be right up there with my favourite straight-faced actors at SNL. Always so great at being the person you can trust to keep an air of calm or seriousness to a sketch. This from the 50th was a great reminder of it: www.youtube.com/watch?v=LNt1...

Okay, so while job hunting and in interviews I rarely find it easy to dive into my favourite pieces or logic behind writing. So here's a quick thread on why this is one of my favourite pieces. 'Confession: Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Made Me Agree With Sephiroth' powerupgaming.co.uk/2024/04/16/c...

I might be unemployed, but my payment would easily be in the three figures.

Okay an hour later than planned but I just had to do something after the most recent episode of Severance. This has huge spoilers for the most recent episode so don't click if you haven't seen it! But it really is a masterpiece. The finest 17 seconds of acting: open.substack.com/pub/aidanben...

Aww, Adam Sandler's song '50 Years' at the SNL celebration show was absolutely brilliant. Touching and funny: www.youtube.com/watch?v=fXAb...

About to pitch an incredibly personal article for freelancing and thank you for asking I have read it close to 100 times before even pitching it.

Stuff it, I've got a 1300-word deep dive analysis on the latest episode of Severance. I'll drop it at 7pm tomorrow, I figure three days is enough for folks to be fascinated by it having watched it. It might be crap, who knows! But oh god I wanted to write about it. #Severance

On this most special of days, I'd like to congratulate these two almost literal love birds. They've taken to nest outside my room. They quite often and loudly have sex. Happy Valentines Day.

"you went to a club, find a sushi-sized hole, in the bathroom wall, and make a wish. And prepare for some shockingly high-grade fish" I cannot stress how much this song has grown on me, it's hilarious: www.youtube.com/watch?v=XbGc...

This feels like a personal attack.

I do find it funny that the best kind of podcast to listen to while working is one that isn't that interesting but also isn't completely boring. I'm not so much of an asshole to reveal what I'm currently listening to.

Just seen a spoiler-ific post about John Turturro's performance in Severance. Don't get me wrong, there isn't a bad performance in the show, but the most recent episode really was a masterclass from John.

Being a non-wrestling fan who watches the rumble every year with major wrestling fans this is the part that always stands out: the fact its fake is part of the fun. They love discussing how they would have written a story or the other ways they could have gone with it.

So I went to a comedy gig at the Caroline of Brunswick in Brighton on Wednesday and one of the acts, I can't remember their name, produced this gem: "The apple, the straight white man of fruit, in that it's statistically the least likely to visit the doctor." I'm sorry, that's genius.

Companies: advertising Valentine's Day to me is like preaching the value of space travel to a donkey.

I just love this publication. I really do.

Bluesky has owls. Bluesky is the good place.

I've waded into the world of tennis YouTube videos as background noise and it's making me remember how much I love the sport. The grass court season/Wimbledon visits (I spent eight days at tournaments) - Olympics - US Open left me very burned out on it.

Them: "We're sorry to tell you we won't be progressing with your application." Also them: "We won't be offering any feedback." Also also them: "Sent from: no-reply" Me:

Okay as someone that spends a lot of their time writing or searching for new opportunities, I often find myself listening to a documentary or podcast. I actually do miss The Lonely Island & Seth Meyers podcast. It's the right level of being able to focus on something else, while still entertaining.

This is the most relatable post I've seen on here in my entire time on Bluesky:

Cigarettes, the dessert to sex and calming down from catching up with the latest episode of Severance.

It just feels so grossly unfair to compare any other show to Severance. It's just so far ahead of the pack.

Not seen this shared on Bluesky yet but here's the big moment for Henry Patten and Harri Heliovaara: youtu.be/dpGRCYRJFcA?...

Turns out being run by a nazi is bad for business. Meta etc take note, if they follow that route people will leave.

Amazing. Henry Patten and Harri Heliovaara win their second slam title inside a year, which incidentally is a longer time frame than they've even been partnered! Brilliant year.

The language nerd in me loves a neologism that sounds right. Appistocracy. Appistocracy. Yes, that's a great sounding word.

I actually clicked on a YouTube advert because it was genuinely useful. This is a low moment.

Instead they chose to have it on my birthday instead. Made for a fun present in the end.

So I've watched YouTube for a while. I finally decided to do a bit recommending places that I find fascinating or who I watch the most. If YouTube is your jam, check it out: open.substack.com/pub/aidanben...

So I write (at least on my Substack) a fair bit about improv and happened upon this picture today. It's from a performance last summer. I'm on the right, I'm not even performing, but one of the great joys about improv is seeing folks you've known for ages nail a scene. This is just me enjoying that:

I've spoken about it before, but oh god I dislike LinkedIn. It's fun when you're working but I'm just casually freelancing at the moment. Social media in general is tiring for people who, for their health, is better they don't have contact with certain areas of their past.

Because I've realised that my next Substack will probably be about YouTube content creators, here's an underrated one I quite enjoy. Good to listen to while writing/doing other things. A good and amusing look at Prince Harry's documentary on polo: www.youtube.com/watch?v=9cHY...
