Teaching sweater knitting today in my brand new sweater ✨

Finished a #knitting project and I literally used up ALL the yarn. This little thread is all that was left after casting off. What a thriller 🫣 This has never happened to me before, I’m usually left with spare yarn after finishing.

My grandmother Reeta (b. 1912) in the 1920s and 1940s (on the right). My mom found these pictures and I don’t think I’ve seen them before. She looks so chic even though she was a farmer’s daughter. The only one of her siblings to get an education.

Taking a little trip with my family. I don’t have a driver’s licence so I can just knit 🙌🏼 #knitting

Look I made a puffy bag! This is my third and probably best #bestiebag 🍿 Quilting the outer fabric really brings out the 🍌 shape. This time I also used a webbing instead of sewing the straps from the self fabric. What a fun make!

I taught a darning and mending class this weekend and here’s a couple of my students’ makes. I was so inspired by their excitement and creativity ✨ Crafting brings people together and is such a unique medium for people to share their experiences, memories and emotions.

I’m currently making a quilted #bestiebag by #bfpatterns 🍿 I found the outer fabric with woven red and white stripes at my local recycling center. It took a while to quilt all the pieces, but I really like the puffy result! I added extra 4 cm seam allowance because quilting can shrink the pieces.

Preparing for a mending class I’m going to teach next week. #mending #darning #parsinta #sewing #ompelu #käsityö

Finished this beast of a shirt over the weekend! #sewing #garmentsewing

Friday night fun ✨ I’m new to quilting, but already pretty hooked because it’s such a great way to use all my lovely scraps. I’m using the playful placemats pattern by Cedar quilt co. #sewing #quilting #ompelu #tilkkutyö

How do you organize and store your sewing patterns? I’ve been sewing actively since 2008, so I have A LOT of patterns. To tackle the mess, I’ve started to store them in envelopes. I draw a little sketch on top of them so that it’s quick to find what I’m looking for.

Ok, sleeping was definitely a great idea! I like this so much better now that I try it on more properly. The only big issue now is the sleeve plackets, which I accidentally sewed on the wrong side of the sleeve and therefore the closing is wrong-sided. Should I chop the sleeves or redo the plackets?

This is the nearly finished button-up I posted about earlier. I…. hate it 😅 Lots of fiddly details like welt pockets that I love to sew and I’m happy about, but the overall sewing experience was a little chaotic. The fabric is a midweight rami I’ve made into pants before. Maybe I’ll sleep on it.
