I’m tired of hunting being associated with Ted Nugent rather than Aldo Leopold. But hunting culture has only itself to blame. The mediocrity of so-called “bipartisanship” perpetuates a narrative for right-wing media while ignoring that it’s all built on progressive policy. I’m working to change that

Thanks to everyone who participated nationwide!

Some examples of research USGS does that is at risk with RIFs and restructuring: - earth quake and volcano monitoring and warnings - landslide risk assessments - water quality testing - wildlife conservation - wildfire prevention and post-fire rehabilitation - invasive species tracking

Here’s How Many Employees Each National Park Is Losing A nonprofit is tallying up how many NPS employees have been let go from each park. A key asset has been social media posts from terminated employees. www.outsideonline.com/outdoor-adve...

The R party has consistently lobbied against the system that made hunting a sustainable model of conservation in America. The industry helped them hijack the narrative. The truth is, its success was built on progressive policy—something they don’t want you to know. Gutting the Lacey Act? Wake up.

This is not a drill. This administration proved itself to be no friend of hunters last time. They say one thing and do another. The consequences of some of these actions would be irreversible and could end a 100-plus-year legacy of hunters advocating for the public trust. Behave accordingly.

“The Trump administration seems to be signaling that selling out and selling off the nation’s public lands to the highest bidder might provide the necessary funding.”

We are gravely concerned about threats to public land and the scientific management of wildlife and habitat. If recent events have shown us anything, it’s that conservation and public lands should never be taken for granted. It’s up to all of us to become educated and involved.

If you wanted to cut waste, fraud, and abuse, you would empower the inspectors general. If you wanted more waste, fraud, and abuse, you would fire them.

As we speak, the Trump administration is laying off thousands of workers who take care of our public lands. If you care about the legacy that we pass on to our kids and grandkids, now is the time to speak up.

The nicknaming of woodcock is far older than modern times. The biological history of the American woodcock is believed to date back as far as 1,000,000 years, surviving at least two ice ages... Along that road, people gave many names to what we now call the America Woodcock or Scolopax minor.

The episode highlights Prince Karl of Solms-Braunfels, who led German settlers to Texas and founded New Braunfels, and his nephew, Prince Albrecht of Solms-Braunfels, who played a key role in hunting dog breeding.

“We tell our stories in order for our upland culture to live—passing on its moral code, instructing other hunters, particularly the young and inexperienced—preserving memories…”

Recently took a peek at Twitter and the disinformation is getting substantially more dangerous. Someone could get killed. The tactics of constantly repeating outright lies, targeting specific people, repurposing years-old footage and presenting them as new is getting to another level. It’s scary.

NEWS: My legislation to reauthorize the North American Wetlands Conservation Act is headed to the President's desk! This bill will improve access to clean drinking water, bolster our outdoor rec economy, & protect wildlife & their habitats for future generations.

Dogs fitting the description of the Bracco Italiano have existed for centuries, mainly in the northern half of the Italian peninsula. Written references to their general type can be found as far back as the 13th century. 🐕

Since we’re talking about how much billionaires suck again, here’s a reminder that your local indie bookstore deserves your business this holiday season. They have gift cards and are happy to mail stuff out. Same goes for @bookshop-org.bsky.social. Buy books. Give books. Support bookstores.

This is their goal. Privatize everything. And by “privatize” we mean steer billions to themselves and their friends, ending programs that serve those with the least under the guise of “efficiency”. Rural areas will suffer. Prices will rise. www.washingtonpost.com/business/202...

🦬NEWS: The Senate has passed my bill to help Tribes restore bison populations on their lands. Bison are a critical part of our culture in New Mexico — especially in Indian Country. The House should take this bill up to help re-establish buffalo herds on Tribal lands.

The public inferred a gap between steel shot and lead shot’s effectiveness because of decades of misinformation.

The pinyon jay is a medium-sized bird also found in western rangelands whose range overlaps with the sage-grouse. It’s a crestless jay with a body shape resembling a small crow. Because of this, it’s been known by the folk name “blue crow.”

Journey to the Northwest with Zak and his father as they pursue upland birds. This story goes beyond the the hunt, capturing the essence of cherished memories and the landscapes that hold them. It’s a heartfelt tale of a father and son’s unique bond—a relationship few are fortunate enough to have.

I’ve hunted over a few Pudelpointers. Developed in the 1880s, this German wire-haired breed is one of a handful from Germany. Ranked #8 in popularity, 5.8% of the upland community owns this breed, according to the 2024 North American Upland Bird Hunting Survey. 🐩

Through their work, they were able to identify that the lead impacting woodcock was both sourced from local areas and introduced into their diet. The researchers suggest we won’t see a decrease in the lead levels in woodcock unless “the amount of lead discharged into the environment is reduced.” 🧪

Despite the name containing the word “Milan” it did not originate in Northern Italy. Its origins were Southern Italy and, depending on where your family immigrated from, some seasonings in this breaded tradition vary. Journey back to those regions today and this method is applied to about anything.

Whether people realize it or not, most domestic dog breeds are the result of selective breeding for hunting purposes. From the widely popular German Shorthaired Pointer to the Chihuahua, each breed’s story offers a fascinating glimpse into the history of specific cultures, people, and places.

I could nerd out on woodcock all day, every day, and it never gets old. The oldest fossil evidence of their existence dates back 1 million years ago, during an ice age. The most dominant food in their diet is not native to North America, and they are itinerant breeders. No big deal.
