This is a really crushing piece on the way in which disability is vilified and the government perspective that productive work is the only thing of moral value www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

Looking for a #PhD that is at the intersection of #biodesign, #synbio, #openendedness, #evolution? Look no further. Great supervisory team too 😉

My department @ucl-cdb.bsky.social, is looking to hire a lecturer (assistant prof equivalent) in computational cell biology www.ucl.ac.uk/work-at-ucl/...

I got reviewer comments back for a big grant today. Is "in E. Coli" going to be the new "in mice" for synthetic biology work? I should say it's a fair comment for my synthetic community work, but this proposal is already so extensive that to then say we'll include more species feels crazy

NERC funded PhD project with Tom Fayle and myself to study the impacts of anthropogenic change on ecosystems using synthetic microbial communities and agent based modelling www.trees-dla.ac.uk/projects/exp... Short deadline (20th Jan) Please share 🙏

What I should have done if I was a good supervisor is advertise the posters that Alice, Casey, and Louie brought to #sbuk24 However, I got lots of lovely comments from folks who had chatted to my group #proudPI

Reflecting on the two days of #sbuk24 talks on the very slow journey home, I think my favourite was Scott Stacey from Harrison Steel's group. Lovely demonstration of complexity built from simple biology that needs modelling to fully understand an unexpected result

Still a few spots left in the Mammalian Synthetic Biology starter pack!🧪

Day 2 of #sbuk24 starts with a session on control opened by Harrison Steel. Lots of excellent stuff (as usual), from directed evolution in microfluidics to "magnetogenetics"

My first conference since moving to bluesky. I'll try to maintain a live stream #sbuk24

🚨Interested in #evolution and #synbio and looking for a PhD? Then come join mine, @taylorlabgroup.bsky.social and Paps labs to trace and shape the evolutionary paths of engineered biology!🧬🔍🛠️🧪 Project details here: bpb-eu-w2.wpmucdn.com/blogs.bristo..., apply here: swbio.ac.uk/programme/ho...

Science friends coming from the bad place—let’s not lose each other in the void. Over the next few weeks, I'll try to put together some science "starter packs" of who to follow. Fill out this form to be included. bit.ly/sci-starterp... Share widely ❤️ Thanks @robp.bsky.social for the inspiration!

I currently have a funded vacancy (24 months) for a post-doc to work on strain engineering projects in the area of yeast biotechnology. You can find more details about the post and how to apply on the UCC jobs portal or LinkedIn Sept 5th deadline).

Well done to Chania for her first paper! 🧪 @ajfedorec.bsky.social

We are actively recruiting for two open Computational Biology positions in our NGS group - both covered by this listing www.ginkgobioworks.com/job-listings...

Does anyone have experience with the OpenTrons Flex? How reliable is the plate gripper, for example?

Q for microbio ppl: When making synthetic defined media (e.g. EZ Rich) for bacteria (mostly E. coli), do you need to buy cell culture grade reagents? If not, what quality is acceptable? Diff in cost between cc grade and cheapest is ~£20 per L of media and ~£2k in initial outlay
