Some good news today! The stop work order for those providing legal representation to unaccompanied children has been cancelled.

They want war crimes. I do not know why the media will not say this. They say they want war crimes. Heggy got his job because he supported war crimes on Fox News. They think it is good to hunt children for sport.

Of the Chiefs of Staff, vice chiefs of staff, and judge advocates general of the three branches, Trump fired all the women and Black people.

Side note. There are eight members of the joint chiefs. the chair is black. the CNO (navy) is a woman. the other six are white guys. chair and the cno got fired tonight.

another great example along with Wired and Teen Vogue of how real journalism these days can be a lot braver at outlets where no one is trying to get in good with the White House press secretary they’re out here with us, reporting on what’s happening to us all, instead of trying to get inside access

This is quite significant in many ways: the overt thuggery, Trump’s barely suppressed fury at being contradicted by a woman, the governor’s standing up, the total abandonment of the pretense of federalism, the continuing use of trans Americans the way Hitler used Jews.

5th Circuit Brief: You should go en banc and rule that there is no border search exception for digital devices. (Also, I'm pleased to see some of the arguments track those I make in my new book, "The Digital Fourth Amendment.") drive.google.com/file/d/19IFl...

I think @owillis.bsky.social likes to point this out: In DC Comics, when Lex Luthor ran for president, he divested from LexCorp because the idea of him winning an election without doing that was obviously just crazy.

The Google AI results at the top of searches are so pointless. We have a resource (the internet!) that knows everything, and instead of going to the source, it's like you asked your stupid cousin who is trying to recall the information from a podcast he heard last week.

Good words here. When Rs break with Trump on an issue like this let’s encourage it.

This is also true for impoundment.

Unironically, these letters are a good example of how we’re ruled by evil men now. It would have cost them nothing to be at least slightly sympathetic. “Hey man, we know this is rough, but we have to tighten our belts and…” They instead deliberately made them as cruel as possible.

This is 100% the right call.

They’re right about this, but were wrong that they could get what they wanted from Trump without the things he wanted

NEW: On Section 504. "Attacks on any one group will be used as a wedge to attack all of us. You may not personally know any trans people, and you may even be uncomfortable with the idea ... but letting this attack go forward will eventually hurt you and the things you love, too." /1

I’m not sure the world has seen a genuine supervillain until 2025. Of course there’ve been countless monsters: hitler, Stalin, pol pot. But a real life figure who fits the Gotham/Metropolis model. Plutocrat bigwig who is actually deeply evil & wants to run the world for cartoonishly stupid reasons.

The machinery of federal law enforcement, step by step, is being turned over to fanatical Trump supporters whose north star is service to him, not facts and the law, while professionals are forced out. This is happening with the support of the acquiescence of Senate Republicans.

“Ultimately, by joining in Trump’s effort to make America lawless, Sullivan & Cromwell may be working to render itself irrelevant.”

What Ilan Wurman and Randy Barnett are doing isn’t best understood as legal scholarship. It’s more like wartime public relations, or like SEO. It’s creating bullshit that will give dishonest judges a pretext to pretend that there is a serious constitutional dispute. They’re fascism’s fixers.

Can we also keep in mind that while Zelenskyy like Churchill 1940-45 postponed elections, Trump in peacetime tried to overturn by violence an election he lost - and has since pardoned all the co-conspirators in his attempted coup?

This is backwards. I think the idea of "distractions" is mostly people arguing themselves into thinking not objecting to a thing is wise and smart and not justifying to themselves not objecting to it. But either way: This is the whole fight. bsky.app/profile/dani...

NEW: SpaceX engineers were onboarded at the FAA under Schedule A, which allows government managers to “hire persons with disabilities without requiring them to compete for the job.” @telliotter.bsky.social & @aarianmarshall.bsky.social w/ the scoop: www.wired.com/story/faa-do...

The root that tears apart your foundation begins as a seed of distrust, hate, and blame. The seed that grew into a dictatorship in Europe didn’t arrive overnight. It started with everyday Germans mad about inflation and looking for someone to blame.

When Republicans stopped criticizing him, there became so few who did that they could be hounded into silence. If we shut up, we raise the cost of speaking out for everyone else.

Did Panama agree to build and run Trump’s concentration camps so he’d stop talking about seizing the canal?

I keep hearing people say Trump is dumb for firing immigration judges just as he’s trying to dramatically ramp up deportations. It’s only dumb if you assume they plan to respect due process for those they deport. I think “ominous” is the better word. www.bostonglobe.com/2025/02/18/m...

One thing which has been very bipartisan over the last decade has been the U.S.'s successful pressure on other countries to simply ignore their own laws when carrying out the migration-related demands of the United States. Mexico does it all the time.

On Wednesday morning, from the Darién region, Ms. Ghasemzadeh described a sweltering encampment, overrun with cats and dogs. Then, she sent a text message saying that the authorities were confiscating all phones. Her last words: “Please try to help us.” www.nytimes.com/2025/02/19/w...

Now this, I can co-sign.

Do you need any more proof that we no longer live in a democracy and that hell is coming?

Look, call me a stickler for Judicial Ethics, but I am not sure a nonpartisan, apolitical judge who is likely to hear cases involving the Trump administration should be sitting down with a club for conservative law students to discuss "DOJ AND THE WHITE HOUSE: DEFENDING PRESIDENTIAL PRIORITIES"

History: “Eventually the incompetent fascists invariably lose power and then society recovers in a new and stronger way” Me: “Oh, cool, so what has to happen for the spell to be broken??” History: “mmmm…well, that part is less encouraging.”
