Labour MP says removing winter fuel and disability benefits has broken trust with the public. She accuses Starmer of being "tone deaf" and adds to voices within the party publicly calling for a "change of plan".

One of the things worth noting here is how much Lib Dems are entrenching themselves. Lots of MPs elected last July now sporting expanded council groups in their seats.

Is this minister someone who’s fed up with pandering to Reform, or someone who thinks Labour is still just too liberal? Genuinely no way to tell

Gloucestershire Council Result #LE2025: LDM: 27 (+11) RFM: 11 (+11) GRN: 9 (+5) CON: 6 (-24) IND: 1 (+1) LAB: 1 (-4) No Overall Control (LDs 1 off!) - No Change (though was initially Conservative in 2021).

My feel is that this is **worse** in many respects than last July. Not just knocked back, but encircled, supply lines cut.

Results are looking pretty bad, but do think we should stress to outside observers that “governing party taking a hammering in local elections” isn’t, like, an unusual event

Something I am watching is those Independent numbers. How much of that anti-politics vote we saw in locals is going to Reform instead now

Agree with this. Too much focus on 'GP tells Labour they are a overweight', something they could fix* and 'Tories showing signs of death'. *They probably won't, but still!

Everyone is talking about Labour. But let me tell you that unpopular governments losing ground in these elections is par for the course. Not enough people talking about the spectacularly bad night for Badenoch. Like, *that* is noteworthy.

Two posts to summarise the UK political moment from @stephenkb.bsky.social

Is there any possible result overnight that wouldn’t have led to this paragraph being written?

Labour's biggest issue is neither being too socially conserative or not socially conservative enough. It's cuts. People have had enough.

What? I was assured Trump was going to end it on day 1 of his presidency?!

Breaking: Leaked group chat shows Pete Hegseth ordered firing of Mike Waltz

Mike Waltz has left the chat.

These are actually extremely significant concessions from the Americans. 10/10 to Ze's negotiation team

what is the fucking point here, seriously i would like an explanation of what is the huge injustice that's being remedied by banning twenty (!) trans women from football

Great episode. Did not need to be an explicit sequel to Midnight, though.

New idea: a UK Labour govt policy announcement that doesn’t make you react like this

And right afterwards, the quote says "You don’t want a pope that speaks for the emperor" As I have said before, the Church *hates* it when secular rulers try to interfere. Bare that in mind when thinking about Vance.

My staff has confirmed with Mohsen's team that he has been released on bail. So relieved. This is a huge win but the fight is far from over. It’s going to take all of us to demand due process for everyone.

And here comes the mood crash

Recently I found myself on Antipope Instagram, where there are endless reels of the current Antipope of the Palmarian Catholic Church. This is, of course, extremely my jam, and I started reading up on them hoping to find some wild theology, but instead I found something WAY better...

One of the many things I love about Canada is that this map makes the election look like a three way tie but the huge blob of orange in the north east is one parliamentary riding out of 343 and was won by the NDP candidate with 2,945 votes
