Good Morning Yall, let’s show love to Gloria Richardson, civil rights activist who was a key leader in the Cambridge movement. That movement led to desegregation in all of Maryland in the 60’s. After this Gloria would later move to Harlem and continued to work on civil and economic development.

certain respectable, centrist pundits have said or implied that i'm basically hysterical about the idea that the trump administration is segregationist but then we get stories like this one. huh, wonder what ideological perspective might explain this decision.

remember this can be one day or day one - do what you can!

NEWS: The FDA abruptly canceled its upcoming advisory committee meeting to select the strains for next year's flu shot. by @berkeleyjr.bsky.social

These mandates don’t even apply to private companies. They just want to get rid of the DEI policies variety.com/2025/biz/new...

Three decades after legislation pushed for the return of Native American remains to Indigenous communities, many of the nation’s top museums and universities still have thousands of human remains in their collections. Check on institutions near you with our database (just updated):

Took 5 min today and whipped up simple designs in Canva. Sized to fix 2 x 4" and 1 x 1 5/8" mailing labels. Print them by the sheet and stick them up: lampposts, parking meters, sidewalks. (Just don't be a jerk.) Remind people this isn't normal & they're not alone, and encourage them to act.

United Farm Workers just sued Border Patrol. The details in the complaint are harrowing www.aclusocal.org/en/press-rel...

Some good news in the midst of ::waves hands around:: all this.

On Jan. 31, Pratt-Chapman was notified that funding for her research on LGBTQ+ cancer data collection had been terminated. As a consequence, the ability to do science for an entire generation could be lost, she said. Read her interview with @bcrodriguez.bsky.social here

Because Reagan said the government isn't the solution to our problems but is the problem itself. Republicans folded that in with their Southern Strategy and used it to further bind themselves to the Evangelicals, particularly the white ones.

The Social Security Administration just put everybody who manages its agency website on administrative leave. "If there's a website problem, I don’t know who's gonna fix it." It also shuttered its civil rights office. www.nextgov.com/people/2025/...

BIG NEWS: A Fifth Circuit panel holds that Planned Parenthood has immunity for its attorneys' actions (because the attorneys, too, have immunity) in a long-running False Claims Act case over Medicaid claims, ordering the district court to rule in favor of Planned Parenthood on the affected claims.

💥 BREAKING: At John Deere's annual shareholders meeting today, shareholders overwhelmingly rejected an anti-DEI proposal brought by the same group that targeted Costco and Apple. An anti-DEI proposal from the NCPPR received less than 1 percent of votes. Deere shareholders: DEI is in. Bigots are out

It's amazing how much of the support for Donald Trump and grievance politics comes down to "if I have to interact with people different than me in public life without using slurs I'd rather burn the whole country down."

WHOA! Consumer confidence took a 7-point nosedive—the biggest drop since 2021—hitting 98.3 this month, worse than expected and the lowest since June 2024. After everything we’ve seen since Trump moved back into the White House, who really expects the economy to improve anytime soon?

It's not a splashy oped in the NYT, but please, I did 16 years of legal and historical research to understand the legislative intent and historical/political motivations for the Reconstruction Amendments. 28 pages, ungated, written accessibly for smart lay audiences. 👇

The cynicism of the anti woke bullshit of the past decade was transparent the whole time but it’s still worth noting how quiet the defenders of the enlightenment are now

seems like a good morning for me to re-up this!

Bezos bends the knee. Pathetic.

A restrictive Idaho law banning state insurance from covering gender-affirming care could be a peek into the future of a national ban on Medicaid spending for transgender care. From @rangemedia.co:

The reason they use thinly veiled euphemism for racial sterilization is that the press will run the thinly veiled euphemism and never have the temerity to come out and say they’re pushing for the mass extermination of Black people through sterilization.

The way we're already pricing in authoritarianism is very, very bad. Trump is using his power as president to openly retaliate against a law firm for representing Jack Smith and it's barely news. The signal this sends is chilling to anyone who would oppose him. What else will he do to his opponents?

Twenty-one technologists at the U.S. Digital Service—now rebranded the U.S. DOGE Service—resigned rather than aid in Musk’s effort to destroy the federal government.

To remake America inn the White image he wants to see it in and most White Americans agree with him (whether they’re on the right or left, conservative or progressive, red state or blue state):

"Amazon deliveries." This is Jason Calacanis, a venture capitalist & prominent Musk toady. And he does not know a big percentage of Amazon deliveries are made by the USPS. I will never get over how stupid the people at the top of US society are.

We've had anti-intellectualism in the US forever, but our elites didn't back it up with serious policy. This assault on science and knowledge is unprecedented, and it's not really sinking in. This isn't a bureaucratic spat over contract details or DEI, it's war. The silence of universities is bad.

I have noticed that as independent media thrives, the billionaire backed legacy media is starting to call itself independent as well. Don't be fooled. Support fearlessly independent, unapologetically pro-democracy outlets like Democracy Docket. www.democracydocket.com/me-subscribe...

A few companies that are not abandoning diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI): Apple, Ben & Jerry's, Costco, Delta Airlines, Francesca’s, JPMorgan Chase, Lush, Microsoft, Patagonia.

The National Park Service has removed from landmark consideration an 11-mile stretch of Louisiana important to the history of Black communities and traditions enslaved people brought over from Africa. State officials considered it a win because they want to develop the area. bit.ly/4ifE930

Know what happens without medicaid? No nursing homes. Know what happens without nursing homes? You lose your job when you have to do full time elder care.

Look if a man had recently become a bipartisan folk hero for allegedly killing a CEO for denying people healthcare...I'm not sure my opening salvo would be voting to strip a large chunk of a gun toting population of healthcare. That's just me though.
