This thread is worth your time. Thanks to Dr. Koster and all of the other PO’s at NSF that do such tremendous service for our scientific community. Yesterday and today were hard for our community. But this thread offers valuable insight for continuing to move forward.

Cutting something from your budget that gives a positive ROI isn’t the same thing as saving $.

Twenty years ago today, a small little website came out that would bring weirdos from across the country together. www.everydayshouldbesaturday.com/2005/02/10/t...

Reposting the NIH stats for Iowa in light of the news of capping Indirects (F&A) at 15%. There is a >2:1 gain for each NIH dollar in the state. Decreasing how much NIH funding comes in will decrease jobs, and feedback to the local and state economies. Not to mention the loss of knowledge.

Let’s be clear about something that maybe the wider public will get. Not only will this destroy research but it will also lead to huge tuition increases. Your kids’ college is about to get a lot more expensive.

What’s next, wavelet analysis linking aDOT, success rate, and game time? Hmmm…maybe there’s something there…

Gini coefficients and CFB stats.

Finally got to make a pun combining my kids name and norovirus and immediately realized I had been greatly overestimated the experience. #MoreLikeNoraVirus

The 90 minutes I spent with these 12 girls was the antidote I needed today. Dr. Jenn & Dr. Becca talked about types of STEM professionals & the things we study. They then drew themselves as one (or in some cases many) type(s) of scientists ❤️🤍🧪

Semi-regular reminder that there are more graduate students in the USA than coal miners.

Just submitted my abstract for #2025SFS. As a teaser, its pre-colon title is “The art of biogeochemistry:”. I’m stoked to hear what @freshwaterscience.bsky.social folx think about this idea Ashley Smyth and I have been noodling on for a minute.

In this new review/conceptual paper in J Env Mgmt, we argue for the need to open the black box of internal biogeochemical and ecological processes in order to better manage stormwater ponds to enhance the water quality benefits they provide to society. www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

reminds me of penn state-michigan a year ago. notre dame is right there but it will shock me if they win this, and it takes a lot to shock me today. feels set

“You can’t win anything at Notre Dame”

marcus freeman proving once again that literally anything is possible if you are hot enough

The first Black (and Asian!) head coach in a national title game is coaching Notre Dame and he’s 39. Win the whole fuckin’ thing, Marcus. 🏈☘️

"Oh dang, this must be a 'Big Game' then..."

Riley Leonard every other down tonight
