Net approval of ICE: All: -17% DEM: -80% IND: -32% GOP: +60% Quinnipiac / June 24, 2025

Finally a corporation is reacting to what’s happening here. Don’t be surprised that it’s not a car company or a shampoo brand. They’re all still pretending that life is normal. It’s a bookstore. Barnes and Noble fills their store display windows with Orwell’s 1984 and Atwood’s Handmaid’s Tale.

NYC Comptroller Brad Lander: "I don't think the line for the [Democratic] party right now is between progressives and moderates; I think it's between fighters and folders."

The left better start figuring out how to weaponize today's decision rather than just (rightfully) criticizing it. - Go back into Judge Kaczmaryk's court to dissolve all of his nationwide orders. - Pass gun bans and insist any order applies only to plaintiffs.

this court says that allowing EPA to regulate carbon emissions is a "major question" that demands congressional debate. but allowing the president to, with a flick of the wrist, end a straightforward constitutional right is something that must be allowed to stand?

They're just televising the construction of concentration camps like it's a good thing. This is unimaginably dark.

Boy, Dems refusal to even attempt court reform sure is backfiring. Who could have predicted that?

To put it another way: Zohran Mamdani received more than 432,000 votes, which would have won you 10 different states last November.

everyone who said to do big stunts, draw attention to the issue, and hammer trump on it was right. and people like shor, yggy, newsom, gallego, were spectacularly wrong.

You can’t govern as though public opinion isn’t variable. It is a fact - a simple empirical fact - that people can be & are persuaded as facts/perceptions/vibes change. You have to actually stand for something.

Trump says he gave Iran permission to bomb US airbase. Any other president would have been impeached before sunset www.washingtontimes.com/news/2025/ju...

This is remarkable. New Quinnipiac poll finds support for path to legalization for most undocumented immigrants has risen to 64%. Only 31% want most of them deported. That's a 14 point net swing for legalization since Trump took office. On immigration generally, he's at 41-57!

Congrats to Zohran Mamdani. Important lessons. Focus on shifting economic power. Relentlessly. Have big ideas on how to do it. Be joyful and authentic. Even if your ideas aren't considered "mainstream" by elites. The elites have little idea what's actually mainstream.

Feels like ranked choice was absolutely decisive in this race—not because of the vote count, but because of how it changed the incentives from zero-sum to cooperapetitive. It allowed a fractured left field to align organically through co-endorsements instead of falling into a circular firing squad.

"GOOD FUCKING RIDDANCE"

The most powerful figure in Congress is insisting that a measure passed by Congress in an effort to reassert Congress's rightful role in the constitutional order is actually unconstitutional and his Congress should have *less* authority and influence. The saddest set of eunuchs in world history.

I hate when I go to bed early on a Saturday night and wake up Sunday morning only to discover we’ve gone to war in the Middle East without the consent of Congress. 😡

Yet Luigi launched a thousand hand-wringing op-eds from the chattering class. Makes you think

1 day apart

It's understandable we all mostly take it as a given that Trump doesn't bother to adhere to Constitution or the laws passed by Congress, but it is still both (a) absolutely necessary for our democracy and (b) good political strategy for Dems to file articles of impeachment over this.

@stevevladeck.bsky.social @bobbychesney.bsky.social could really use an emergency National Security Law Podcast right around now…

There was a survey a few weeks ago that found half of Americans thought ICE was just hunting criminals. The institutional press have failed to make clear ICE’s primary strategy today is capturing people through the use of compliance traps, and shipping them off to substandard prisons in the South.

As I have argued for months: The person calling the shots in this admin was never Musk or Bannon or Susie Wiles. It's always been Shadow President Stephen Miller. Anything Trump says on e.g. immigration is cheap talk; Miller is the decider. www.wsj.com/politics/pol...

Yes. Stephen Miller literally overrode the Secretary of Agriculture on worksite raids. She convinced Trump to back her, he publicly announced a new policy, and Miller got that entire thing overturned in a matter of days and made Trump publicly back his vision instead.

Job Garcia’s kidnapping by the Trump administration is the top story on the LA Times website right now. www.latimes.com/california/s...

In Florida, “free speech” and “institutional neutrality” mean that a Nazi arguing that nonwhites have no rights wins a prize while a course with “race” in the title is censored for violated the law. Congratulations to all the credulous centrists who helped this along.

If allegations of antisemitism are causing you to leave Mamdani off your ballot, they should also be disqualifying for Cuomo. If you like Mamdani but-for these allegations, there are candidates who have more in common with him than Cuomo. Rank Lander & the other WFP candidates. Don’t rank Cuomo.

What's driving me nuts about the Zionists for Cuomo brigade is that Andrew Cuomo has said some very anti-Semitic stuff in the past. This is a thing that happened.

I agree with this. Dems need to message against EVERYTHING that Trump is doing by talking about what they would do differently, and do it from a *values* based place, so everyone knows that an alternative is possible.

I just have to say, as a historian of the Reconstruction-era Klan, that masked paramilitaries are very bad and masked vigilantes are even worse and there are causal links between the two and none of this is good for democracy.

There is no known safe level of exposure to cancer-causing asbestos. Trump's EPA is reconsidering a ban on deadly asbestos. Tax billionaires out of existence: they are an existential threat. Ban billionaires & their asbestos. ☣️ www.wired.com/story/trump-...

I truly believe we will look back at this attitude as *the* sickness of our political era. It is an extremely basic fact, and has been for decades, that the vast majority of political violence in the US is committed by the right! You cannot solve a problem if you refuse to identify it.

extremely grim question. I think my preliminary short answer is yes my medium answer is, they didn't just kill the Equal Protection Clause, they killed it and buried it in Pet Sematary so it came back all wrong and twisted, fighting against everything it is supposed to fight for

the lesson of this isn't that tucker carlson is actually good but that you should ask these people basic factual questions instead of bullshit about politics

Picked up a lot of blocks today. Not entirely sure why. Don’t really care if I’m blocked, just wish I knew if there was a pattern or if it’s just random.

I still can't get past the idea that people in America are now supposed to accept that this is a valid form of law enforcement and just assume it's fine when random dudes in groups with face-coverings, no ID, no warrant, & no uniform grab people off the street and force them into unmarked vehicles

Fox News host Will Cain: "The 'No Secret Police Act' would ban local, state, and federal law enforcement from covering their faces when interacting with the public. Officers would also have to wear identifying information on them, like name tags. Hard to believe this is real!"

The claims that McIver, Padilla, and Lander were committing assault should make you question every other time LEOs claim assault or resisting arrest, if you weren’t already.

Lander and Padilla have set the standard that absolutely every Democratic politician should meet or exceed if they don't want to get primaried.

Reminder that Zohran showed up for Baraka too (in person and before other NJ state officials did)

seen some people complaining that this is a political stunt and lemme say if this was the kind of political stunt more politicians were doing on a regular basis we wouldn't be where we are today dude is actually putting himself on the line here, fuck off with that shit
