Feeling a little overwhelmed with the news lately. Also, the flu cycled through the whole family. So I’ve been feeling quite exhausted for the last few weeks. What strategies do you have for absences and for self care so you can do your best for your students? #EduSky #ITeachMath

Precalculus students freak out for a test graphing polynomials and rational functions because of factoring, but then they make cool art like this on the side…. www.desmos.com/calculator/a... #ITeachMath

Sick and miserable, waiting to be seen by a health professional. Wonder if our current model of school calendar is just a setup for everyone to get sick in January. Do schools in the southern hemisphere have June/July or July/August off? How are illness rates? Do you all get less sick? #EduSky

A rewritten version of one of Zeno's Paradoxes: A robot is programmed to sense the distance between itself and the end of the room. Unfortunately, due to a glitch in its programming it only travels half the distance after each measurement. What happens to the robot as time goes on? #ITeachMath

I know free press means freedom of the press, but I will continue to believe that information should be free for the people. Paywalls and capitalism are the problem.

I’ve done some version of this in the past, saving to remind myself to do it again!

Any suggestions for accessible readings on different kinds of infinity for the high school level? #MathSky #ITeachMath

Someone pointed out that my alma mater’s zip code ^ (⅔) = 2025!

Maybe I am ridiculous, but I think #news should be free. I feel like trapping news behind paywalls just serves to further cultural divides and misinformation. Yes, the folks who work to provide the news should get paid and I do not know how to balance that.

"Teaching mathematics better can not only help students succeed, it can be part of the resistance, protecting our democracy from authoritarians now and in the future."

Happy holidays to all who celebrate. Enjoying this break from #ITeachMath to recharge with the family. Fun puzzle? Our 🧩 had 1000 pieces, but the 1000th piece was a duplicate of another piece. Life’s reminder that things don’t have to be perfect to be enjoyed!

The news every day. I grieve the lives lost all around the world due to cowards in power who prefer money over humanity. Every day, I wonder how we can allow it to continue. When will enough be enough and when will enough of us be enough to put a stop to it all.

Dear #MathSky and #EduSky, the other day I saw this post about someone sharing an article? Blog post? Something about the 4 different purposes that people believe public education serves. I meant to like/open the link to read it, and now I can’t find it. Does anyone know what I’m talking about?

Pick a 3 digit number. Divide the number by 6. Write down the remainder. Divide the number by 7. Write down the remainder. Divide the number by 8. Write down the remainder. Add the three remainders together. What starting number should you pick to get the greatest possible sum? #iTeachMath
