Happy to share our new paper on the inhibition of memory retrieval in dissociative amnesia, with @dcdace.bsky.social, Hirokazu Kikuchi, Nobuhito Abe &, Jun Kawaguchi, Mike Kopelman & @memorycontrol.bsky.social doi.org/10.1017/S003...

Music helps attentional focus. I hope so. I'm not going to stop listening to music when I work. Rapid modulation in music supports attention in listeners with attentional difficulties www.nature.com/articles/s42... #neuroscience

A thread🧵 on application systems for postdoc jobs in the UK (applies to my university, but I've seen others and they're similar). I have seen (too many times) good applicants who don't seem to understand how recruitment is done on our side - not their fault! it's a privilege! - so here's how

Scientists, academics, researchers: We’re excited to share that @altmetric.com is now tracking mentions of your research on Bluesky! 🧪

Happy publication day to us! New paper just landed: The holistic forgetting of events and the (sometimes) fragmented forgetting of objects www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti... #psychscisky #neuroskyence #cognition 🧪

I have not seen a starter pack for the study of brain rhythms. So, here's a start. go.bsky.app/A6zgHeE

As part of an exciting new UKRI-funded interdisciplinary study of the vividness of memory, we are recruiting two post-doctoral researchers, one in cognitive neuroscience (www.jobs.cam.ac.uk/job/48823/) and one in intellectual and cultural history (www.jobs.cam.ac.uk/job/48767/). Please share!

🚨Long-awaited revised preprint thanks to rigorous and helpful reviewers🚨. We validated LDA approach, obtained reactivation to index neural reinstatement, and updated inferential models w @alexamorcom.bsky.social, Matt Plummer + new co-author Ivor Simpson www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1... . Summary👇🧵

Submitted my first paper today and released it as a preprint! Murray, E., Goebel, S. M., & @aidanhorner.bsky.social (2024). More Steps, Same Effect: Spacing Increases the Retention of Mathematics Procedures of Varying Complexity. doi.org/10.31234/osf...

I’m going to keep repeating this: ChatGPT was designed to do the impressive feat of making a computer produce a natural sounding response to a question (or other prompt). It was not designed to provide factual answers to questions.

New "forum" (short opinion piece) with Scott Cairney is out and available to read at your pleasure! Forgetting unwanted memories in sleep www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti... #PsychSciSky #neuroskyence #Cognition 🧪

How are multiple interconnected memories reactivated during #sleep? We've published our opinions, but here I'd like to highlight recent findings from other groups. Tl;dr: multiple memories can be (almost) simultaneously reactivated & shared contexts drive this reactivation 1/8

Fun new paper on meaning & memory in the brain. Retrieval is often seen through the lens of encoding success, but we find a unique "flip" in which the parietal ctx mediates enc failure but retrieval success. Cool implications for theories of parietal function. direct.mit.edu/jocn/article...

Got Butterflies in your Stomach? 😵‍💫 I am super excited to share the first major study of my postdoc @the-ecg.bsky.social ! We report a multidimensional mental health signature of stomach-brain coupling in the largest sample to date 🧵👇https://www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/2024.06.05.597517v1

Our paper with showing that memory control improves immediate emotions of autobiographical memories just got published. Massive thanks to @robinhellerstedt.bsky.social, @memorycontrol.bsky.social and @zarabergstrom.bsky.social 🙏😁 www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10....

New phase learned today: p slacking Being quite happy to fail to find a difference between two conditions and not really doing much in the way of exploratory analysis to see if it really is that null.

Deadline for this is next Friday (12th). Send me your applications! #neuroskyence #psychscisky #cognition

I received word recently that a dear colleague, Larry Jacoby, had passed. Larry made countless contributions to cognitive psychology and the cognitive sciences #cognition #cogsci #cogpsy

Very excited that @akulsatish.bsky.social's MEG paper on spatial representations and theta/alpha is officially published in Hippocampus! Theta and alpha oscillations in human hippocampus and medial parietal cortex support the formation of location-based representations #neuroskyence #psychscisky

In humans, highly selective brain lesions are rare. This study tests two unique patients with relatively selective lesions to dentate gyrus (DG) vs. CA1 subfields of the hippocampus. DG lesions impair discrimination of similar memories, whereas CA1 lesions impair recognition memory overall.

Hi neuroSky, thanks to Lynn Nadel & Sarah Aronowitz I wrote a book chapter on multiscale predictive representations that connect the past to the future, memory to prediction & planning. There's still time to edit it & I'd love to read your comments! Am I missing citations? arxiv.org/abs/2401.09491

OPMs are going social! First two person data looking promising 🤞

Competing memories may be integrated or differentiated based on how much their representations co-activate. Using real-time fMRI neurofeedback, this study finds that high co-activation of memories in visual cortex leads to less memory discriminability in hippocampus. #PsychSciSky #neuroskyence

Long-term memories can guide eye movements automatically, even if they are not relevant to the task. But what happens if we attempt to suppress a long-term memory? Attempts to regulate memory retrieval reduce incidental viewing of objects whose memories are being suppressed. #PsychSciSky

We're looking for someone to image the thalamus at 7T. We want to combine 7T structure with 3T EEG-fMRI to understand what's happening in the thalamocortical system during sleep and divided attention. Please circulate and get in touch if you're interested! jobs.nottingham.ac.uk/vacancy.aspx...

Our review on scene perception is now freely available in the Oxford Research Encyclopedia of Neuroscience! doi.org/10.1093/acre... We discuss object-, space- and affordance-based scene representations and behavioral, fMRI and M/EEG evidence for their presence in the human brain (plus DNNs)!

Really proud of this work! We used our item-wise RSA to show that interaction terms describing how the hippocampus and cortical regions speak the same language (hipp RSA ❌ cortical RSA) are the best predictors of memory success I.e., hipp codes memory information, but only in simultaneity w cortex

Wikipedia's own article about itself contains an editorial note complaining that it is excessively promotional in tone. That is really quite meta
