I talk about video game pricing a fair amount, and it looks like the topic of $80 games is coming up again. Is that a reasonable price? Yes and no. I mean, it's a reasonable price for some people for some games, but there's a lot to unpack here.

It isn't a birthday parade unless they wear the little hats.

hi please don't share images or videos of identifiable protestors thank you

Remember that you don't have to RSVP to a protest; you can just show up!

Especially if you're on the fence about it, protest today. Fascism is isolating and lonely. Its very goal is to make you feel like you're the only person unwilling to accept a cult of personality. On days like today you fully realize there are more of us than there are them. You will feel better.

I'm curious for takes from other game designers or players who feel compelled to 100% games-- Is designing really long-tail completion objectives to achieve 100% exploitative or unhealthy towards completionist players?

Hi friends. Periodic reminder that, when it comes to power dynamics, you should always punch up and avoid punching down.

Oh, uh, I should probably eat something today. 🤔

Violence is bad. Some people say "oh, but it's okay when it happens to awful people" and of course the problem is: there is somebody who thinks that you specifically are awful.

i quit polygon; today's my last day. back to being an intergalactic bounty hunter (full-time freelance writer)! you'll soon see my bylines elsewhere & ofc you can still hear my video game opinions on Triple Click weekly. if you've got room in your budget for me: maddymyerswrites at gmail dot com <3

I'm just thinking about the "live service" dilemma again. It only works if there is a constant level of minimum activity. There's no long tail. You can't have a beloved live service game that enjoys an unexpected resurgence in popularity; once it's dead, it's dead.

Laws are social contracts. The Constitution is a social contract. An armistice is a social contract. And once you start to renege on those social contracts, then the only way to enforce agreements is through physical force. Historically, if you don't/can't uphold laws, the mob will do it for you.

Fun fact: in the 1960s, Civil Rights protestors were given literal classes on nonviolent protest; they didn't all just spontaneously know what to do. So, if you're planning on showing up, this weekend: read this comic. And if you're staying home, signal-boost it/link it around.

To paraphrase an old adage, when all you have is an airstrike, everything looks like a target.

You know, this would all have been easier if we hadn't confirmed those clowns in the first place. (Sure, this can be about whomever you want; take your pick.)

Reminder: if your product relies on an always-on connection, then you are making other people's infrastructure problems into your product problems.

I dunno, it seems like a bad idea to pick a fight with the State of California.

Mel Brooks is 98 and if he’s gonna be involved with a sequel to anything at this point I’m glad it’s the one specifically about selling out. God bless.

Me: Do the Asari self-identify as feminine, or do they just find it convenient that the humans make feminine clothing that happens to fit their physiology? Clerk at the Post Office: Uh, will that be it, or do you need anything else, maybe some stamps?
