Honestly, seeing HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH theatrically in 2001. I was brought up Catholic in Texas, so you already have a good idea what my childhood was like. But art saved me and changed me. Seeing HEDWIG at the River Oaks Theatre was a paradigm shift in a big way.

Watching SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY, first time since theaters. I’m enjoying it a lot more, but it’s still shot like crap. This should have been bright and vibrant; instead it looks gray and dull. Alden Ehrenreich’s good though. He made the best of a situation that was always going to be a tough sell.

I promise I’m not gonna turn this into a SINNERS-only account, but if there was ever a film to piss off the “sex scenes aren’t necessary” crowd, this is it. There’s an intimate, joyful carnality to the picture that supercharges it. It’s smart, human and very fucking hot.

I will join the chorus of people telling you that SINNERS is an extraordinary film. I'm not a big horror person or a big vampire person, and I will be absolutely shocked if it's not among my very favorite movies of the year. See it in a theater, with a crowd, on the biggest screen you can find.

There is a sequence about halfway through SINNERS that is so audacious, so confident and imaginative, that I started shaking with excitement. It feels like Coogler planting a flag and letting you know that he’s leveled up and will not stop.

Anyone who knows me knows that I don’t do a lot of horror movies, but damn if I didn’t really like SINNERS. I really enjoyed that one. My favorite sequence is a particular musical sequence about midway through (I won’t go into detail about it. Don’t want to spoil).
