Glaswegian but now an Aotearoan by choice. I like to read. I like football but really only Celtic and Scotland and the All Whites. Hope to see an independent Scotland in my lifetime. Mostly here to read other’s posts. #Scotsabroad

NEW: updated long-run gap in voting between young men and women in Germany: Gender divide continues to widen, but contrary to what is often assumed, young men continue to vote roughly in line with the overall population, while young women have swung sharply left. www.ft.com/content/29fd...

“Because Scots does not have a recognised standard spoken form today, many believe that the various dialects spoken here are dialects of English. They are in fact dialects of Scots and form an unbroken continuum with the language which was the national tongue of the Middle Ages."

Oh...

Oh.

“An entire system of comharran – Gaelic navigational marks – surrounds the islands… A wealth of knowledge about the creatures which populate these fishing grounds is also encoded within the Gaelic language.” —by @tonguetiedfilms.bsky.social #MotherLanguageDay theconversation.com/how-scottish...

The Real BBC ‘Impartiality Crisis’ Is Its Constant Platforming of Hard Right Tufton Street Think Tanks – Byline Times

There's been (inexplicably, IMO) some debate over the source of Reform UK's growth in Scotland (e.g. a few unionists claim that the flow to them is from the SNP). Looking at the latest polling, that very clearly isn't the case. The story is the total fragmentation of Scottish Labour's vote:

Iain M. Banks (1954–2013) was born #OTD, 16 Feb: a 🎂 🧵 1/10 “Iain Banks… is a novelist who has his own ‘double’, an author for whom the idea of a split writing persona is emphatically not out of place” —A 2010 article on Banks’s genre-busting career: www.thebottleimp.org.uk/2010/11/read...

Finland gave every homeless person a house and within 6 months 85% had a job and were financially independent. Less crime, less hospital visits, less suffering and even including the cost of the house, LESS COST than the UK/USA method of abandoning them on the streets.

Scotland’s 2nd energy boom is being stolen whilst we pay the highest bills in the UK. #Indyclan #Scotland

Pessimists sound clever. Optimists change the world. I love this depiction of the energy transition by RMI.

Sarwar & Starmer's nuclear love-in. What's it all about? Scotland going for new nuclear is like geothermal/hydro-powered Iceland going for gas. It makes no sense at all. Our destiny is to develop clean green baseload energy like tidal for ourselves & the world www.thenational.scot/politics/249...

Every sensible person now knows that the #bettertogether campaign was totally disingenuous.

How do we kill the myth of crazed NZ Govt C*VID stimulus spending? All the data to test the assumption that we went nuts relative to other countries is easily available now. Let's have a look at a few angles... [🧵1/n]

Reform UK are now leading in the polls. This is the map of seats that would flip to Reform if a general election was held today. Scotland, with NO Reform MPs, would have to accept being ruled by Farage - like we had to accept Brexit, Boris, Truss etc. Are you YES yet? #ScottishIndependenceASAP

I’ve clearly missed something, but why is a Westminster government paying towards the development of a privately owned English football stadium? With an annual wage bill of £183,040,000. Especially when on the same day they announce that benefits for the sick and poor are going to be slashed.

BBC Reporting Scotland roll out a shop owner who happens to be a Labour Councillor to comment on the Scottish Gov DRS issue. Really!!!! Is that the only shopkeeper you could get? I doubt it. BBC Scotland Labour bias again 😤

Which power generation technologies are the least harmful to the environment & society? It's wind, solar and geothermal. Great meta-study provides an overview of negative externalities associated with electricity supply. www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

Highlighting how English media lie to Scots. It's propaganda, designed to stop us seeking independence. Counter it, help the truth out, we're better without them.

Greg Jackson from Octopus Energy, now the largest supplier in the UK, yet again repeats that the Scottish people pay the most for energy even though Scotland generates more than it needs. Union bonus?

“What about China?” has been a throwaway comment for years to suggest that the west shouldn’t reduce it’s carbon emissions. Meanwhile China has become the world leader in clean energy technologies.

BBC News going into overdrive reporting on Calmac ferries. Can’t wait to see the extended coverage they’ll provide on the ‘troubled’ £5.52 billion Ajax armoured vehicle fiasco. www.defenceprocurementinternational.com/features/lan...

Reading some of the populist nonsense about Glasgow's safe drug facility. Fancy a city having to battle to be allowed to open one because the country next door objects! Meanwhile in Luxembourg, we've had one since 2005 and opened a second in 2019. www.talkingdrugs.org/luxembourg-t...

It is a worry, that Labour is on its way to dismantling much of health and welfare system the party brought in almost 80 years ago. Keir Hardie must be spinning in his grave.

Jeff Bezos never wanted this cartoon to become public. He killed it, and as a result, pulitzer prize editorial cartoonist Ann Telnaes quit. Make sure everyone sees this cartoon.

As Reporting Scotland this morning once again repeat Tory fake news about taxation in Scotland, what they hope you're forgetting:

Slack journalism from @peterstefanovic.bsky.social !! Scotland generally does it better.

15 things that took less time than Operation Branchform. OF COURSE it's political. Police Scotland and the COPFS are complicit in keeping this minor investigation going till the 2026 Scottish election. This is an affront to democracy that would shame a banana Republic. #PublicInquiry

2025 … before you complain remember this. Are#YouYesYet

Hats off to @talking-upscotland.bsky.social, which has been doing a great job all year calling out Pacific Quay's incessant anti-Scotland whining. talkingupscotlandtwo...

@BBCScotlandNews never knowingly truthful or unbiased but always anti Scotland and anti Scottish.

Bluesky has been great at stopping many Maga accounts in their tracks. Will they they also act to stop anti Scottish independence trolling? (New ferry actually has lower emissions per car plus other advantages).

This will make life difficult for BBC Scotland, who have spent many years getting people from the drinks industry onto their programmes to say how awful the Scottish government policies are. #MUP #MinimumUnitPricing #Alcohol #PublicHealth www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

Fascinating going through the OECD country balance sheets (no, really). For example, I never knew how much of an outlier NZ was in terms of business net financial worth. And, there's more... [🧵1/n]

Denmark has a new king, the King and Queen get approximately $500,000 from the Danish Government a year, and the whole family is worth $40m. In the UK King Charles gets $150,000,000 a year and his family is worth $25bn. We need to be more like Denmark.

Denmark doing a marvellous job of responding to mad King Trumplethinskin's utterances:

Revival in #SNP fortunes raises fresh questions about #Scottish independence Polls show highest level of support in four years for breaking away from UK “The UK government hasn’t set the heather alight,” said Ian Blackford, former SNP leader at Westminster.

The “spending crisis” in health in an example of a fake disaster used to undermine our public services. Fuck this corrupt govt #nzpol

Just listened to the most distorted report on BBC Radio Scotland about waiting times in #NHSScotland causing additional deaths. No, Helen Puttick people in Scotland do not celebrate more people dying in England, but they are grateful to have the UK's best performing #NHS here.

#YouYesNow #IndyClan? It's TIME for #ScottishIndependence 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Many in the Yes campaign for 2014 argued against the 'don't scare the horses' approach back then, saying we should be bolder. We need to make it really clear that the Indy offer is VERY different to the UK- a clean break. Our own currency & central bank. No royals, no lords. Rejoin the EU. #IndyRef2

BREAKING: 59% of people would back Scottish independence if it means removing the monarchy and becoming a republic, a new Norstat poll has found.
