We are no longer the country of “mustn’t grumble” – quite the reverse, in fact. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

Reform UK continues to Deform UK politics. Labour continues to copy nonsense policies

The BBC played a major role in Farage's normalisation by using him as their screen saver.

They both keep their money in Tax Havens.

As if we needed more evidence that Farage et al are divorced from reality - their big idea is to cut spending from local government, which has suffered more in spending cuts than pretty much any other sector over the past decade

Labour over-reacted to not winning the Uxbridge by-election in opposition, using it to criticise their own champion Sadiq Khan They should be careful not to do the same again following the Runcorn loss to Reform. If just three voters switched sides the conversation would be very different...

You’re telling me that right wing voters that Labour was trying to appeal to voted for a right wing party anyway and left wing voters decided not to vote for Labour because they’re too right wing now? Who could have possibly predicted this.

The last Labour government used the slogan “those who can, teach” to recruit teachers. Teachers could now turn this back on ministers and demand that those who can, pay. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

I don’t want to hear Wes Streeting off in some fantasy world where trans people are treated in private rooms in NHS hospitals, I want to see politicians dealing with real problems, and journalists asking real questions. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

I do wonder why my MP @bellribeiroaddy.bsky.social, who tweeted about Trans Day Of Remembrance last year, had been publicly silent on the UK Supreme Court’s retrograde, cruel, and scientifically illiterate ruling last week on trans rights? I voted for you. Very big danger that I won’t again.

Policymakers must reject efficiency as the sole measure of success and rebuild public services around human connection. It should not be seen as utopian, or nostalgic, to advocate for public services that value relationships. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

Trump persuades many ordinary Americans that their suffering is entirely due to foreigners (immigrants, China), while in reality it is more likely to be the fault of people such as Musk, Bezos and Zuckerberg www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

Ernest Hemingway wrote: ‘The world is a fine place, and worth fighting for’. I think we can now all agree with only the second part.

Why does Keir Starmer believe he can keep letting down those of who voted Labour in a perpetual capitulation to the right wing's prejudices? We do have more alternatives now.

Trump’s repression of free speech & disappearing of foreign students from campuses push academics to look for options elsewhere. Europe’s reaction? Come here! UK meanwhile? Hiking fees & cutting foreign student rights to make UK less attractive cos all that matters is lower immigration numbers 🙄
