CASC Statement on science agency firings in HPCWire today: www.hpcwire.com/off-the-wire... The impacts to our national competitiveness, health, safety, and science leadership will have longer consequences than one quarter, one year, or one presidential term.

This is just fucking awful.

This one is a must-read. The supply chain simply will not exist to support the huge gas buildout utilities are planning. Either data centers have to get way more efficient and cut load growth forecasts down to size, or renewables pick up more demand than planned. 🔌💡 heatmap.news/ideas/natura...

This is a correct use of the definition of the word "DOGE" meaning "to fuck something up arbitrarily, indiscriminately, and without reason." That having been said, please view the request from @benanhalt at this link, who got DOGE'd from his job at the USDA and has skills to bring to the table […]

The stupidity of this administration is exceeded only by its mindless vindictiveness. History will not judge it kindly.

I'm with you, https://ssa.gov I'd like to report DOGE.

"Many people in the research community supported by the program I managed have voiced grave concern that the future of American science is at risk" We spoke to a now-former program director and other sources at the US govt's cut-back National Science Foundation www.theregister.com/2025/02/21/n...

I've been collecting guidance, documents, examples for open-source software projects, such as on governance, code of conduct, licenses, etc. in github.com/corsa-center.... Now I would like to add sustainability plans. What projects have good plans? Or even guides about how to write one.

Upon learning that yesterday would be my last day as a program officer at the National Science Foundation, I shared this parting message with my colleagues. The next few months will be frenetic and stressful for them. Here are some things that you can do to help them with the mission ahead. (1)

We are thrilled to join the Bluesky community and share our passion for advancing climate science through cutting-edge computing 🌱 ICCS collaborates with international research teams to address the computational challenges of climate modelling. Follow us for updates on all our exciting projects! 🎊

This is insane.

The entire inner and even exterior dialogue surrounding the massive waste of time, energy, materials, and money by the large-scale computing industry right now seems to be “we know this is stupiid but people are buying it.”

It is illegal for the Executive branch to impound funds appropriated by Congress

Thoughtful discussion on our paper here by one of Microsoft’s experts on data center architecture & energy systems www.linkedin.com/posts/sean-j...

Finally had time to build a decent back door for the 20-node Radxa X4 mini-cluster 10-inch rack. It's not perfect but it's much better than our previous placeholder.

Many state PUCs have been told data centers are 100% inflexible - but some of the hyperscalers are saying otherwise. Reporting by E&E-Politico: www.eenews.net/articles/stu...

Thank you @nersc.bsky.social for the honor!! 🎉 atap.lbl.gov/news/huebl-r...

A must listen episode here. If contracts are not enforceable, the US ceases to be the land of the free.

BBC tested a bunch of chatbots used as news source: - 51% have issues with answers - 19% fabricate fake statistics / info - 13% fabricate fake quotes or alter them This is exactly what you expect from a random word blender being used as a source of information. www.bbc.co.uk/aboutthebbc/...

This is a very good idea. If you're a scientist or researcher who is supported by Federal funds, you can just go on social media right now and explain what it is you're working on. You don't need permission from anyone, and you don't need to wait. Do it now!

JUST IN: Federal judges orders HHS, CDC, and FDA to restore “by no later than 11:59 pm” today their websites and datasets to pre-January 30th status. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

This is the road to hell.

Good morning! On this International Day of #WomenInScience I'd like to express my strong support and thanks for women bringing their talents and dedication to this field. Every day should be such a day. In this odd time in which social forces would pull us backwards, this is important to reinforce.

Good morning Bluesky! We’re excited about the week. We’ve got some new #Warewulf content coming. What are you working on this week? #Monday #HPC

I spoke with Elisa Wood of Energy Changemakers about how data center operators think about energy procurement and what DeepSeek actually tells us about energy demand forecasts. Good conversation for folks interested in AL and energy. podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/h...

Trump tried to lower NIH indirect rates in his 2017 budget and that failed to pass. This is a reminder that everything he tried to do through legal means in the first term will be attempted again through illegal means. He will only succeed if we let him.

The current situation with regard to the actions of the Trump administration can only be described as vandalism.

Musk's move fast and break things mantra won't work in US.gov

Datacenter energy use to more than double by 2030 thanks to AI's insatiable thirst

Federal scientists should know their rights, agency policies, and whistle-blower protections to safeguard scientific integrity. www.nature.com/articles/d41...

For the upcoming RSEHPC workshop at ISC25, June 13, 2025, in Hamburg, we are seeking contributions from the field of continuous integration and benchmarking for HPC, see www.helmholtz-hirse.de/events/2025_... for details! Feel free to submit a lightning talk proposal for the workshop!

If anyone wants to talk to a linguist about why this list of words banned from federal grants is absurd, please get at me. The point is to make sure that no one can do social science (or really any science) at all. www.tiktok.com/t/ZP8Yjf5FH/

If your work has been impacted by President Trump's executive orders, we want to hear your story.

♻️ AI is transforming #datacenters – but at what cost? Rising power demands and rapid hardware refresh cycles are fueling an e-waste crisis, writes Blancco Technology Group CTO Russ Ernst. Read more 🔗 www.datacenterknowledge.com/green-materi... #AI #Sustainability #Ewaste

"Everyone thinks of solar like the Whole Foods of energy - better for you, but pricey. In fact, it's now the Costco of energy, and everyone needs to know that." - yet another unforgettable thought from @billmckibben.bsky.social

NEW: USAID source says staff are scrambling to save archived copies of US regulations before they're gone & are being actively locked out of systems, including a publicly available database of USAID documents. WIRED has built software to systematically check the status of 1,374 government domains.

Mini-cluster with DIN rail mount, nearly complete. Palmshell (Radxa X4L) head node connected to four X4 worker nodes by 2.5 GbE, Jetson Orin Nano gets connected at its maximum 1 GbE by a USB to Ethernet adapter, 1 GbE to the outside world. Each of the X4s […] [Original post on mast.hpc.social]

Whatever Trump may claim, renewable electricity does not make electricity systems unreliable. @nathanielbullard.com with the receipts. SAIDI = system average interuption duration index, a measure of the average cumulative electricity service outage per customer (aka how much time the power is out)

Here's the DIN rail mount mini-cluster idea in progress. I'm using standard metal DIN adapter clips and a small aluminum piece to attach them to the Radxa X4 standard heat sink and fan. The Jetson Orin Nano Super development kit gets mounted on a standard […] [Original post on mast.hpc.social]

We should not accept or cede any power not explicitly granted to the president by existing laws and the Constitution. Most of his initial actions since taking office fail to pass this criterion.
