what could possibly wrong here

I'm old enough to remember when supposedly serious people mocked Biden's pause on new Energy Department approvals of gas exports. Maybe there were real economic impacts that needed to be studied? Maybe dont just take industry talking points hook line and sinker?

The Bureau of Labor Statistics is cutting back its collection of data on consumer prices, raising questions about the reliability of federal economic statistics under President Trump. #EconSky www.nytimes.com/2025/06/04/b...

While the abundits were blabbing about polls, Republicans were conspiring to push up your electricity bills. www.nytimes.com/2025/06/04/c...

#ResistanceEarth #BlueEarth Trump has declared a “national energy emergency,” asserting that the U.S. has an “inadequate and intermittent energy supply.” But most new gas pipeline capacity under development would go for LNG exports, not domestic energy needs. insideclimatenews.org/news/0206202...

Not a lawyer but I assume it's less than optimal for the government's case to be labeled by a judge as kafkaesque

What foreign power could do as much damage to the United States as Trump is doing to it right now? www.whitehouse.gov/presidential...

hey @golden.house.gov, any thoughts on your fellow speaker trashing labor unions? you name is literally across from his on the program

Top donors to WelcomeFest organizers WelcomePAC: - $1.8M+ from tech billionaire Reid Hoffman - $1.1M+ from the ultra-wealthy Walton family (Walmart) - $1M+ from Heather Manchin's Americans Together - $250K from Bain Capital co-chair Joshua Bekenstein - $100K from Michael Bloomberg

“I’m just going to say it, shame on any of us who throws a trans child under the bus for thinking they’re going to get elected. That child deserves our support. Don’t worry about the pollsters calling it distractions, because we need to be the party of human dignity.”

We’ll keep saying it: the Jewish community’s legitimate fears and concerns should not exploited to undermine core democratic norms, or otherwise advance discriminatory & unconstitutional policies. Doing so only makes Jews - and all communities - less safe.

Collins is concerned! *drink*

Our Federal agencies are facing dire threats. The cuts to staffing and programs across the government has already been devastating. And now Congress is working towards further destruction. Today I spoke at a rally outside NOAA. Keep up the pressure. #SaveNOAA. Save Science. Save Lives.

we’ve learned today that the path to victory for Dems is crapping on labor unions, gay people, progressives, trans athletes and illegally deported immigrants … a magic mix that will pump up the electorate and propel Democrats to victory. Matt Yglesias for DNC chair!

Congressman Jake Auchincloss just said he “won’t take a lecture about corporate power from the left” because the left is “carrying water” for the big tech companies, who are the most powerful of all. What? Is “the left supports big tech” a weird new criticism I don’t know about? Mystifying.

nailed it matt

love that it's called WelcomeFest and the agenda is "people we need to alienate to win"

i think this new york centric worldview helps explain why these people see national politics the way they do. parochialism of thinking that politics everywhere is the same as it is in manhattan.

Speakers at WelcomePAC have mentioned being dunked on by BlueSky posters no less than a dozen times in the first hour alone. This site has broken their brains

this story is just a great illustration of NIMBY nihilism. at core, these people have no vision for anything. they simply oppose change for the sake of opposition. (i also think there is an element of death denial here — if i can prevent all physical changes i can deny the reality of my mortality)

i thought we were talking about housing & energy policy. But i guess the main point of welcomefest is to be a smarmy asshole

wonder if Walz would be welcome at WelcomeFest

i've been a housing YIMBY for years. These yahoos seem to want to ruin that (awesome) movement with a bunch of sloppy national politics nonsense that is so so so cringey and embarrassing.

man i did not expect this to be so cringey

Seems like the WelcomeFest isn’t very welcoming!

Does this conference mostly involve being an asshole?

Peak NIMBY brain is trying to keep a neighboring airport open, even though the planes that land there are literally spraying toxins over your home, because if the airport closes then they're going to build affordable housing there. lapublicpress.org/2025/06/sant...

No one could possibly have predicted, at any point during the Obama and Biden presidencies, that the Republican Party would stop caring about debt, deficits, & the debt ceiling the next time they were in power. Absolutely no one. Totally unpredictable.

This seems to be a "movement" designed to upset as many people as possible. Apart from tech funders and Atlantic columnists, who exactly is the audience here?

Sure seems like abundance will raise your power bill www.nytimes.com/2025/06/04/c...

American suicide. wapo.st/4mL6eCo

Are we great yet?

why do feel like there will be an abundance of cheap potshots at progressives & very little in the way of actual policy.

We just got an email that Hopkins is freezing salaries, hiring, and some construction projects. In addition to the 800 million USAID we lost, we’ve had another 50 million in grants canceled so far. And a 2/3 year over year decline in funded grants despite an increase in submissions

Today, Sandeep Vaheesan kicks off a series on his book *Democracy in Power,* by tracing the history of electrification in the US and offering a blueprint for a publicly-led path to decarbonization. Look forward to replies by @brettchristophers.bsky.social, @shelley-w.bsky.social, and William Boyd!

"abunance agenda" seems to mean whatever the hell this yahoo tweets next

According to AP, the typical pay package for S&P 500 CEOs rose to $17M last year — an increase of 9.7%. At half of the companies surveyed, it would take the median worker 192 years to make what the CEO did in one year.  This is what I mean when I say the system is rigged.
