It's harder to sift through recent works, because the rubbish still has yet to be discarded. The great bulk of what was produced between 1875 and 1925 was tosh. Time is the most merciless critic.

I mean, the Supreme Court went out of its way to literally not say that! It did so in paragraph 2 of the judgment!

Today is one of those days where it seems to me that people are consuming far too much news.

For this article I gave an image-generating AI a single prompt and the picture I used was the first it produced. AI is improving all the time.

This article captures a lot of my thoughts. I happily retired at 52 from being a partner in a law firm. I deretired at 55 into pension scheme trusteeship, having realised I needed to sharpen my mind on the whetstone of a new challenge. You have to be clear what you do and don't want.

Note the Conservative splits in particular.

From the dayjob: my thoughts on how pension scheme trusteeship is likely to evolve. www.linkedin.com/pulse/future...

Stoked to find out that outside the legal profession there are so many experts in statutory construction this morning.

Qualified support for this proposal, provided it's coupled with criminalising the wearing of lycra on the public highway.

They launched all girls, we didn't like it.

Just imagine being so inept as to be caught on this.

What portmanteau word is going to capture the concept of Welsh independence? Cymrexit? Wrexit?

Good grief, The Times is deteriorating fast now.

I put up a lot of shots from my balcony, but tonight is just gorgeous.

On pronouns in bios: I’m currently dealing with an organisation where my assigned contacts, who I didn’t previously know, are “Chris” and “Kim”. Neither has an informative online presence. I don’t know either well enough to launch into first names. Pronouns in bios would have been extremely helpful

I have spent the last two hours getting my papers in order for my tax return, having thought that they were already in perfect order. There is no doubt a lesson there, but I very much doubt I'll learn it.

This morning Kemi Badenoch has chosen to devote some of her very limited time to get public attention supporting the wife of a Conservative councillor who was jailed for inciting arson with racial motivation. Her judgement is appalling.

Fraser Nelson, the last commentator to imagine Britain can deal with the US now.

I’ve wandered into watching a succession of videos of early Prodigy singles. What stands out is just how much fun and energy they had.

A helpful guide to the current state of US trade policy:

Unpopular opinion: Michael Gove is a highly appropriate appointment to the House of Lords and there are many others of far lesser calibre than him already there. Rishi Sunak's resignation honours list as reported seems reasonable enough.

Goodnight.

I mean, why would you if you didn't have to? Why take the small risk of an extremely traumatic experience when you can go on hols to more or less anywhere else without drama?

12 hours between these.

Quite interested to see how this plays out. The foot soldiers in a law firm are generally progressive. They also like their pay. I suspect staff turnover levels will be sharply up in the short to medium term.

Everyone else thinking about this cruise is concerned about the speakers. Me, I'm concerned about the paying guests.

I know it’s spitting into the wind given the nature of instant social media, but is there any chance of largely disregarding monthly GDP figures? They get revised in future anyway. But they get treated like tablets of stone rather than the tea leaves they are.

The Free Speech Union should be all over this story, given their stated aims. So I checked their news page. Imagine my surprise to see no mention of this or any of the new curbs on freedom of speech being introduced in the US. 1/2 freespeechunion.org/news/
