Formal mediation continues for UNA's Provincial Collective Agreement. Message to UNA members from UNA Chief Negotiator David Harrigan: www.una.ca/1622/formal-... #AlbertaNurses

Through the nature of their work, nurses are routinely exposed to traumatic events in the workplace. Alberta's nurses should not be forced to wait for – or be denied – access to Workers’ Compensation benefits after experiencing traumatic events while on the job. www.una.ca/1621/email-a...

On February 12, 1988, UNA members voted to end a province-wide strike that saw more than 14,000 Alberta nurses walk off the job and hit the picket lines. This strike helped define UNA members as a force that would not hesitate take a stand for positive change in our health care system. #Solidarity

👋 Let’s give a warm BlueSky welcome to our friends from AUPE who are now on this app at @youraupe.bsky.social. Welcome! #Solidarity #WorkerPower #UnionPower

The constant direction to do more with less, has led to burnout and nurses leaving the profession looking for more rewarding work, said Danielle Nadeau, a Registered Nurse and President of UNA Local 315. “Nurses need safe staffing levels in order to provide safe patient care for Albertans.”

"Nurses will continue to do their best, but Albertans must work together for something better. This includes continued publicly delivered healthcare, safe staffing, and a contract that shows respect to the nurses who have always been there, fighting for our patients."

United Nurses of Alberta President Heather Smith said the allegations demand a formal investigation followed by a public report that includes the true cost of the contracts and who profited. globalnews.ca/news/1100757...

United Nurses of Alberta President Heather Smith called the allegations "deeply serious and troubling." Smith said the government's move to divide AHS into separate organizations is "needless upheaval" and includes a government agenda to move aggressively to privatize public services.

All Albertans deserve to know what has happened, and why it has happened. That should include the true cost of the Alberta Surgical initiative, the contract process and who is profiting from this policy.

NEW: Agency nursing costs at AHS skyrocketed from nearly nothing, $5 million a year in 21-22, to $156 million in 23-24. The only reason costs have come down to an estimated $95-100 million in 24-25 is because AHS let nurses work overtime again. www.theprogressreport.ca/exclusive_ah...

EXCLUSIVE: AHS projects to spend $330 million on agency nurses since 2022. www.theprogressreport.ca/exclusive_ah...
