So, this is where we are. Trump is looking to emulate Putin by taking over all areas of government and heading up a dictator-led oligarchy. 1/n

Calling Zelensky a “Dictator” must be where the line is drawn. It is my sincere hope that the whole political spectrum in the United Kingdom will speak with one voice in opposition to Trump’s lies.

It is alarming to see the leader of the free world parroting Putin's propaganda.

The Trump administration is trying to remake the foundations of the administrative state & democratic practice at home (through authoritarian rule) while simultaneously antagonizing its historic allies, embracing key adversaries like Russia, & disavowing its orientation to more open markets.

New billboard in Clacton, Farage’s constituency. He’s still the UK’s #1 grifter. No other MP takes more from second jobs while being employed to represent their constituents in Parliament

There'll be no deal about Ukraine without Ukraine. America has no ability to enforce it, any more than it has the right to enforce it. If it attempts to insist on one, it will be one of the most shameful moments in its history. And one of the most humiliating.

🧵"So this is how liberty dies..." Trump’s first 3 weeks have been a relentless flood of actions. It's incredibly hard to keep up. I’ve gone through 69 actions & mapped out the pattern - showing how they fall within 5 broad domains consistent with authoritarian states 1/9

✍️ Poor coverage of Gaza at the BBC: failure of journalism A BBC report on the ceasefire in Gaza fails to fact check Israeli violations, while obscuring key context – this isn’t journalism, it’s neglect By Steve Pottinger @bigstevepoet.bsky.social

What’s the point in refusing citizenship to refugees who have ‘made a dangerous journey’? What’s the point in publishing footage of people being deported? I’m sorry to say that this is simply a continuation of the performative cruelty we saw from the Conservatives.

This is appalling. A major decision with profound implications for refugees can't even be debated in parliament. Because it's not primary or even secondary legislation it doesn't pass the attorney general's desk. Zero scrutiny. Zero accountability.

There are no basic standards in the modern Tory party. Not of respectability, or intellectual consistency, or mortality. So it will now say anything - anything at all - if it echoes what that madman in the White House is doing.

Only someone with no understanding of liberal history would treat fact-checking and free speech as a binary opposition. The whole point of free speech is that it gets us closer to the truth. Where free speech has no purchase in the truth, its purpose collapses.

Elon Musk's tweet is not only a lie and a libel - it is also liable to provoke violence against @jessphillipsmp.bsky.social by the more deranged of Musk's extremist followers (and there are a lot of them). She should absolutely take legal action.

2016: Nigel Farage, "The worst case scenario, economically, is better off than where we are today" 2025: The Independent, "Five years on, the true cost of Brexit" ➡️ £27 billion drop in exports to the EU in 2022 ➡️ 15% long term hit to UK trade (OBR) ➡️ 3.6 million more migrants after Brexit

Yup.

The UK parliament has joined Bluesky, with proper verified domains and everything: • @houseofcommons.parliament.uk • @houseoflords.parliament.uk • @ukparliament.parliament.uk • @commonsspeaker.parliament.uk

The personal estates of the King and the Prince of Wales are worth £1.8bn. Last year they made £50m profit. They are exempt from corporation and capital gains tax. This situation is unfair and costing the country millions in lost revenue. It must not continue. taxjustice.uk/blog/the-roy...

Hundreds of households believed the bedtime stories by politicians and parts of the gas industry that hydrogen will replace fossil gas. They now find themselves with a stranded asset in form of a new gas boiler as cities start winding down the gas grid. www.spiegel.de/wirtschaft/s...

🚨 Over 1.4 MILLION emergency food parcels were provided by food banks in our community in just 6 months. This is 69% higher than the same period 5 years ago. This can't go on and we refuse to stand by while so many of us are pushed to the brink, without enough money to live on.
