Come and joint us at @mrclmb.bsky.social ! We have an opening for a new group leader in the Structural Studies Division. We are very interactive and collaborative with amazing facilities and generous core funding. Get in touch with myself or @sjorsscheres.bsky.social if you have any questions.

Congratulations to @lara-kruger.bsky.social, postdoc in @deriverylab.bsky.social in @cellbiol-mrclmb.bsky.social, who is leaving the LMB to establish her own research group at @institutcurie.bsky.social in Paris! Best of luck to you Lara! #LMBAlumni

Reminder that @europepmc.org is a mirror of Pubmed with better search and that it indexes *all* bioRxiv preprints (as well as ResearchSquare), not just the ones funded by NIH like chauvinist Pubmed

scary but fascinating - cells have a degradation pathway that hunts down C-terminal scars (amides!) on damaged proteins. just wow. chemical biology plus CRISPR at its best. big congrats to all authors! www.nature.com/articles/s41...

Being a biomedical scientist, and an amateur astronomer, I get to take photos of objects of vastly different scales. On the left are mitochondria of two cells imaged by fluorescence microscopy. On the right is the Orion Nebula, located in the constellation Orion, 1500 light years away. + scalbars

And it’s a wrap! Thanks all for a great #UKMT2024 fantastic speakers, great atmosphere, passable sandwiches and a lovely party. Thanks to co-organiser Chris Stefan, our sponsors @jcellsci.bsky.social and #BSCB. Many congrats to our J Cell Sci prize winners Katy Yalci and @alex-van-vliet.bsky.social!

Now @alex-van-vliet.bsky.social from Sean Munro lab talking about the Nebra sky disc and prehistoric star maps from Stonehenge. Is he at the right conference? Yes, he is! It’s a beautiful depiction of the yeast organellar architecture! Rab binding partners and involvement in autophagy! #UKMT2024

#PaperAlert we bring wonderful news about @WAutophagy ... our Mericka McCabe and our founders just published a @NatureCellBio article explaining the wonders of our Network...don't miss a bit!! With very valuables testimonials of our volunteers... rdcu.be/d10N6

The same is true of @jcellsci.bsky.social - we will consider articles with reviewer reports from other journals. We’re here to help you publish your work (and try our best to give back to the community). #notforprofit

Should be fun and hope to see some of you there 😬!

If you like Bluesky starter packs then you’re going to LOVE the FocalPlane Network, our global directory of researchers with microscopy expertise. Anyone in the community can join the Network, which is searchable by expertise, location, as well as aspects of diversity that members can choose to add.

I am not so concerned about the left vs right wing echo chamber here. As a scientist, what concerns me more is the potential for an Anglophone/Western echo chamber. At least in my field, scientists from Japan, China, India, Africa etc feel very underrepresented here. How can we address this?

Hullooooo Cell Biology friends. If you're heading to #CellBio2024 in (hopefully!) sunny San Diego this year, then come and check out our session on 'ER structure and function across cell types' Room28C- Dec18th 09:00am! See you there! **Please RT** 🥳

🌟 Welcome to the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology on Bluesky! We’re thrilled to connect with you and share our research insights, job opportunities, events, and more. Join us on this journey as we advance science and improve human health together! #MolecularBiology #Research #Innovation

Always so satisfying purifying a GFP tagged protein.

I created a simple flow chart to help my lab trainees choose the most appropriate stats test in Prism (*for single-factor comparisons only). Feel free to share with your group if you think it could be helpful first start.

Just wanted to introduce myself to the Bluesky community: I am a molecular cell biologist passionate about understanding the initiation of autophagy. This is a process cells use to manage their waste disposal and recycling processes. I am basically investigating how to make a cellular bin bag. 🧪

One way we know Bluesky has the juice is because the starter packs used to be super generic like “Environmentalists 😀” and now they are super specific like “North Atlantic salmonid fisheries scientists whose names start with T-Z” and they have the full 150 people in them

BSCB Women in #CellBiology prize 🧪 Deadline extended (15th Nov) The deal: UK-based scientist, running lab for < 7 years with 1+ senior author publication. Do you know someone who should be nominated? Maybe it's you? Details (a bit out of date): bscb.org/competitions...

In September the world lost one of the great biologists of our time: Joe Gall. He bridged the transition from the histology era of cell biology to our molecular present, contributing a remarkable set of insights in his 9 decades 1/n 🧪 rupress.org/jcb/article-...

What an achievement vaccines are. What a monument to our love for each other it is to stare straight into the face of something as horrific and unstoppable as smallpox or measles or polio or cervical cancer and say “You know what, it doesn’t have to be like this.” HUMANS!

📢 Announcing the Membrane Trafficker Starter Pack! This list highlights researchers advancing our understanding of membrane trafficking pathways. This is just a beginning—help expand the list! go.bsky.app/J9GvL3S

Given the current flood - I think this convenient starter pack search engine needs another bump: blueskydirectory.com/starter-pack... HT @christiangebhard.com

Waves of new BlueSky arrivals in last few days! I’ve been tracking starter packs relevant to molecular/mechanistic/genetic/cellular…etc biology Hope it’s helpful but warning: now a v long thread! Probably the last time I can do this...

Welcome to our Bluesky account. With so many of our community members now present on Bluesky, we felt it was the right time to join. We will use this account to bring you news from the Company, our journals and our community sites.

The next GRC on volume Electron Microscopy is coming soon. Don't miss this opportunity and apply now as the number of seats is limited. #volumeEM www.grc.org/volume-elect... As I am new to bsky, please share widely (do we still say retweet?). 🙏

After 2 weeks of endless cloudy UK skies, managed to see Venus, Saturn, Neptune, Uranus and Jupiter in one session with my 8" telescope! #amateurastronomy

Been thinking about creating a collection of good protein structure figures, as inspiration for my own work. #1 www.nature.com/articles/s41...

One of the reasons why I think it's important for as many scientists as possible to be on one social network is that I actually got to read a surprising amount of new/cool/impactful studies/opinions/ideas through their sharing by others.

Have had this account for a while but will try to spend more time here now! Having a social media science community is just too important not to help promote alternatives to "X".
