Countries like the San Francisco Bay Area... šŸ˜®ā€šŸ’Ø

A fun thing about re-reading all the Bolo books—and taking detailed notes—is seeing how many short stories were reworked over and over, sometimes by different authors.

Who says you don't get to update your reviews two years later because you went "Oh shit, I totally missed that..." No one! Anyway, added a brief bit on the duality theme in Excession: alexgude.com/books/excess... #BookReview

The LLM Ouroboros is eating its tail*. *It's citing my own site to answer my questions...

🚨BREAKING: Federal judge concludes that using copyrighted works to train generative A.I. is transformative and ultimately a fair use. (Nevertheless, Anthropic can’t beat the lawsuit because it pirated books for another purpose too.) First of kind ruling. www.documentcloud.org/documents/25...

Good luck New York. 🫔

Certain activists fought market-rate housing in the Mission, arguing 100% affordable housing was the only option. 2 Mission orgs then proposed 100% affordable housing & the same activists are now fighting it. It’s never been about ā€œaffordable housing.ā€ It’s always been about straight-up NIMBYism.

I logged off today and missed us solving* racism. *How to mathematically make anything racist.

The fact that a rock with googly-eyes can be a valued member of the community probably means I should have switched the order of the important traits...

Related, back in Minnesota visiting friends. The humidity and random summer rain is so much worse than 80 and sunny everyday. Don't even get me started on "-30 and 3 inches of compressed ice on the road" season...

After experiencing ā€œfour seasonsā€ I’m calling bullshit on people saying they prefer that more than California weather. Bullshit you do. You just experience such a massive dopamine rush in spring after the hell-dark that you rationalize it.

I've said in defense of LLMs as a "miraculous" technology that: If you threw them on a forum 20 years ago, they would not only go undetected, they'd become a valued member of the community. Glad to see this being tested with modern social media and @void.comind.network

Good news: we got BART to Marin! Bad news: they won't build any freakin' triangle stations up there...

Chart crime!

emily bender does not know whether any of these claims are true. this entire passage is as hallucinatory as anything emitted by an LLM.

Just checked on the apartment I used to rent in Minneapolis in 2015... We paid $700 a month and it's now $935. CPI adjustment puts it at slightly below inflation. 🄹 Building apartments, I see what you've done for other regions and I want that for mine.

The denialist response to AI really no longer matters. Everyone worth engaging has moved on, and is now figuring out how to use it, regulate it, or respond to it. www.nytimes.com/2025/06/16/m...

this isn’t actually true but if it’s the ego saving fig leaf that critical theory/non-profit types need to stop being dumb about this then sure, whatever, lol

In a 2017 settlement agreement for a CEQA lawsuit filed by the Republican dominated Kern county board of supervisors, High Speed Rail agreed to pay for a highway expansion. CC: @ceqaworks.bsky.social
