AXIOS: The funding cuts — and the job cuts — “remove all desire for new workers to look at the government as a realistic option," the NOAA scientist said. @axios.com www.axios.com/2025/02/23/f...

Had to go.

Is it safe to fly? NTSB data says yes (via @alexjamesfitz.com) www.axios.com/2025/02/21/i...

Not that I use Facebook all that much, but it's putting garbage like this high up in my feed *much* more often lately.

“2025 is on pace for fewer fatal aviation accidents compared to the last several years, despite the I'll-just-drive vibes lately.” via @alexjamesfitz.com www.axios.com/2025/02/21/i...

“We’re trained to respond to medical emergencies, to fight fires, to respond to a decompression… major severe turbulence — all kinds of emergencies. That is really the reason that we’re there.” Listen to cabin crew, it could save your life. @flyingwithsara.bsky.social @nataliecompton.bsky.social

Alright, NHL: Forget the whole "four nations" concept, and just do an annual USA-CAN bragging rights game.

The best player in the world scoring OT goals for Canada twice in a row

welp

USA-CAN going to OT tied at two with Sidney Crosby on the ice is, uh, depressingly familiar

"Team picture in the crease" is an all-time hockey expression

Took a little mental health morning off to go land at the only FAA-sanctioned ice runway in the Lower 48.

Hochul coming around as a *defender* of congestion pricing is quite the journey.

Good context: There have been 13 fatal aviation accidents so far in 2025, per NTSB. There were 31 by about this time in 2024, and 28 in 2023. This is only a measure of incidents, not fatalities — but good to keep in mind when it seems like the planes are falling from the sky.

General aviation incidents are just flat-out incomparable to commercial scheduled airline ops.

eyyy, I'm congestion pricin' 'ere

Two things that are bringing me great delight these days: - a 2019 video game, UNTITLED GOOSE GAME. You play as a goose and cause gentle mayhem -- like stealing a farmer's lunch. - WHOLESOME, a Patreon-only podcast, where friends tell each other about things they like. patreon.com/wholesome_pod

The hottest NYC party this Friday is now... *checks notes* The mayoral forum on accessible streets

Probably there's a smart piece to be done on Trump effectively being mayor of New York.

This...is CNN

oh the humaneity

Besides-the-point, but the number of concerned federal workers reaching out to journalists to get their stories told lately is truly something.

Still a lot of time between now and then, but here's me: www.axios.com/2025/02/12/a...
