As promised, here are the slides I shared with students to convince them to NOT use chatGPT and other artificial stupidity. TL;DR? AI is evil, unsustainable and stupid, and I'd much rather they use their own brains, make their own mistakes, and actually learn something. 🪄

if ya'll think you're full of micro plastics now just wait a decade or two for the shitloads of plastic waste from consumer 3D printers to make its way through the environment. those things are giant plastic waste machines: struts, failed prints, garbage to sell on etsy all ending up in landfill.

School breakfast clubs in England will be used to justify keeping the two-child benefits cap. Breakfast clubs welcome, won't end child poverty Children need decent housing, food, clothes, shoes, more End two-child benefit cap, redistribute. 1% have more wealth than 70% of the population combined

If you imagine Mel Stride winning a general election here and Reform getting 5 MPs and the entire media talking breathlessly over whether Stride will appointment Farage as minister of transport, that is basically what it's like.

The German elections show the far right is actually underperforming. Given the factors in their favour, the AfD could not get over 20%, which is more or less what Reform get here. Reform has about the same number of MPs as Plaid Cymru. A typical Euro election in other words. Not a breakthrough.

Contrary to rumour, the German elections were a disappointment for the populist right.

I’m watching Watership Down (1978) for the first time and realizing we just don’t scare kids with art like we used to.

Chairwoman of the British Kahane Society: "Jeremy Corbyn smells of poo, is a trillion times worse than Hitler and personally flew all four planes on 9/11." Corbyn: "Don't be silly." Rob Ford: "*sigh* Why won't you listen to reasonable, honest criticism Jeremy?"

You know Starmer has fucked it into the sun because the polprofs and professional centrists are talking about Corbyn again. Lads, you did it, this is your prize. Enjoy your ashes. Stop crying about getting what you wanted.

Severance is really good

I would've gone with Playful Punk #Severance

Four years since my son wrote the best opening to a mystery novel ever written.

Can anyone help me? I stubbled on an article published in the American media which took an alternative view about the 2024 and 2016 elections which others have disregarded. I would like to read it. The thumbnail had on it, I think, Elon's face in red and black. Does anyone have the link?

SEVERANCE Watched episode one to see what all the fuss was about. I'm intrigued enough to keep watching.

No-one likes my posts. I don't care.

Finally caught up with Series 4 of SLOW HORSES. Don't know what it says about me, but am I alone I thinking that David Cartwright's house is the kind of shabby genteel country pile one would like to retire to?

#ClimateEmergency - one more figure that has to be a call for #ClimateAction www.ft.com/content/b5d1...

It must be remembered that the Labour government settled with striking unions after entering office. That should have resulted in a mini boom, with all those public sector workers better off. But nothing happened. The Reeves Doctorine has been a disaster. news.sky.com/story/uk-gro...

I bought Coco a new collar with a bow on it. You're welcome.

OpenAI says it has proof that Deepseek used its work without permission to create something meant to undermine and destroy its product. On behalf of all the authors whose novels and stories were taken as training data, oh no that must be so hard for you.

"Because this is capitalism, AI is more than a toy and a liberator of free time: it's the latest, and possibly the most complete means of capturing and imprisoning the soul."

I can't read this as it's behind a paywall, however I am encouraged by the title of this article. A civilised debate over the relationship between screens and children's mental health is long overdue.

Bloody hell Oddbox...

This is shocking and heartbreaking. Temporary accommodation has contributed to the deaths of at least 74 children in England in the last five years, official data shows www.bbc.com/news/article...

Going to a pet shop is my kriptonite

The @waspicampaign.bsky.social deserve justice. Yet the Government refuses them compensation whilst cutting Winter Fuel Payments for thousands of pensioners. We urge Labour MPs to back today's motion in Parliament calling for the Government to reverse course.

Auschwitz was at the end of a long process. It did not start from gas chambers. This hatred was gradually developed by humans. From ideas, words, stereotypes & prejudice through legal exclusion, dehumanization & escalating violence... to systematic and industrial murder. Auschwitz took time.

I watched Alex Garland's CIVIL WAR. It's a good tonic post-inauguration.

“Terrible things are happening outside. Poor helpless people are being dragged out of their homes. Families are torn apart. Men, women, and children are separated. Children come home from school to find that their parents have disappeared.” Diary of Anne Frank January 13, 1943

For those that are interested, I've written about the Labour government's AI mania. They are desperately hoping that AI is the new internet. I have a horrible feeling this will all end badly. A sunny, optimistic article to enjoy over your cappucino 👇

thou wouldst be seiz’d by the leopard; wert thou a leopard

Very sad to hear of the passing of Michael Longley, one of the greatest poets of his generation of a personal favourite of mine. Enjoying the poems people are uploading, but can anyone upload a copy of 'The Ice-Cream Man' his wonderful poem about The Troubles?

George Monbiot's parting gift to the Ketamine addled one. Do take a moment of your time to read 👇 Remember to RT it folks. As it's much more powerful than the like button on this site.

Blue Monday is a piece of crap pseudo science originally part of a travel company's press release to sell holidays. Can we all try to avoid rewarding marketeers, using this term, which tries to sell goods by parasiting on the back of real mental health campaigns.

Whatever happens, never forget: READING FOR PLEASURE has the biggest positive impact of any factor on children's life chances. So always make time to share books with kids, and help them find books to love. Make reading central to everything you do. It will change their lives forever! #literacy

As Trump is inaugurated today after an election where he promised tariffs against UK goods it is clear that those politicians lined up in Washington are there for their personal career interests, not the interests of our country.

A lot of politicians and journalists I know who claim to have progressive/Left views hate me for pointing out but about 30 to 40% of the electorate on both sides of the Atlantic genuinely believe in miracles. Public are unreasonable and project their contradictions on left/progressive politicians.

1. All my life I've watched lefties blame other lefties for right-wing victories. Case in point, Arthur Scargill. I've heard Labour Party members all my life blame Scargill for the end of coal (with no help from Thatcher). Likewise, I always heard Michael Foot ruined Labour's chances in 1983...
