My newest Substack piece is up! I'm turning 37 in just over a day, and there's a lot I'm thinking about. open.substack.com/pub/alexmckn...

it’s a testament to how stupid and great baseball is that the dodgers broke every conceivable financial record signing starting pitchers in the offseason to the detriment & existential panic of 29 teams and now they’re already doing bullpen games in april

On this day 80 years ago, Benito Mussolini was executed by an Italian partisan in Giulino di Mezzegra, then hung from the Piazzale Loreto in Milan the following day. Happy Mussolini Execution Day to all who celebrate.

Politics is more clear when you remember that the "waste" in "government waste" is the profit that some rich asshole isn't making off labor in the public sector whose only purpose is the common good.

Some random dude played his first MLB game on this date 78 years ago... we're highlighting this for no particular reason..

i never understand how people take orders that are pure evil and rationalize it. how do these people live with themselves. if i forget to say goodbye to a friend at a function before leaving i feel like a monster and these people simply shrug off crimes against humanity lol

If our democracy dies, this is its epitaph

Exactly how I realized my previous relationship wasn't going to work. It never got physical, but arguments always instantly devolved to yelling and attempts to undermine the other emotionally, rather than dealing with the issue at hand.

Precisely - to American conservatives (now open fascists), children aren't individual people needing guidance to become independent and empowered adults. They are property to be used and molded as they see fit, like anything else they have in their home.

Going to keep saying: a society that wants to keep its basic functioning has to discourage lying. rewarding it instead is suicidal

this is just a level of sickness that i don’t think any society can come back from

OK, this will sound made up, but I actually DID just confuse a Cybertruck for a dumpster earlier tonight. I was looking at my car's backup camera, saw what I thought was a Cybertruck, and when I turned around, it was the enclosure for the dumpsters in the strip mall I was leaving!

I genuinely don't understand how anyone can look at the current moment and think "Abolish ICE" was anything but completely correct. ICE cannot and should not exist. Period.

Padres off to a historically great start, winning their first 5 games of the season for the first time ever (all against 2024 playoff teams) 🔥🔥

My newest Substack piece is up! Enjoy me reflecting on the nature of inspiration. open.substack.com/pub/alexmckn...

Gotta be "Don't Stop Believing" for me. Even as a fan of corny, over-the-top '80s ballads, I always hated it.

Always interpreted this strip as them watching a cop show where they spoke in Shakespearean phrasing (which always confused me, what show like that exists?) and Calvin wanting a cop show where they spoke normally, but apparently they're just watching a Shakespearean show and Calvin doesn't like it 🤷‍♂️

Seriously: arrest him. The governor should have state police arrest him and charge him with election fraud. Then immediately hold a press conference explaining you arrested someone for committing election fraud and will continue to do so. Just fucking arrest him already. You can actually do this

Great start for my Padres in 2025! Merrill showing there's no rookie hangover with 4 RBI, Gavin Sheets hitting a game tying HR in his first AB with the Padres, and the bullpen going 5.1 scoreless/hitless innings against the powerhouse Braves to allow the comeback. This will be a fun summer!

Seriously. I was a flight attendant who lived in LA and worked out of Boston when the pandemic hit. Even in spring 2020, I never worked a flight to Florida with less than 70 passengers, and by summer, flights were 100% full again. I was doing outdoor dining in both cities (as well as NYC) by May.
