Playing the Middle Ages: Pitfalls and Potential in Modern Games is now available in paperback. 14 chapters on the Middle Ages in Modern Games from a host of excellent scholars. www.bloomsbury.com/uk/playing-t...

I've just signed my first book contract...

We're thrilled to announce the OA publication of Issue 14 of New Voices in Classical Reception Studies! With three exciting new research articles, plus an editorial reflecting on 20 years of New Voices and remembering our much-missed editor and colleague, Trevor Fear. fass.open.ac.uk/research/new...

Logged into the Old/Bad Place for the first time in I don't know how long, and this is the first thing I see. Classical reception algorithm at work, or billionaire media platform's worrying preoccupation with Greek & Roman antiquity?

Yes it's true. Came for the Latin, stayed for a reign of terror throughout the school. No student nor staff is safe from me, and my knocking-out skills! And most importantly, had an excellent time doing it!

Beautiful news from #DiGRA2025 this morning! Very excited to travel to Malta this summer to give a presentation on antiquity in asset stores, and another on history/mythology in cozy games 😊

Our book came out today 🥲 You can get it from the links in this thread (so we get more money for Working Classicists projects) or from Waterstones, Barnes & Noble etc

It seems more and more likely that the next God of War will turn to Egyptian mythology. While I'm intrigued about the narrative possibilities and the characters they could include, I'm also already pre-emptively tired of fighting scorpion after scorpion and impaling bug after bug with giant obelisks

Yesterday, Stefano Gualeni @gua-le-ni.com (University of Malta) came to Ghent University for a talk on Conceptual Games, or how games can communicate philosophical ideas! Thanks, Stefano, for this great presentation, and thanks to Marco Caracciolo for organizing this!

We're moving house tomorrow (and currently racing against the clock putting everything in boxes), so we're manifesting this quote from What Remains of Edith Finch pretty hard... Why... is... there... so... much... stuff...

Next Tuesday >> January the 28th at 14:00 << I will talk about the conceptual use of games and video games at the University of Ghent (Belgium). Come join us if you're interested! #gamestudies CC @digrabelgium.bsky.social @alexvandewalle.bsky.social
