Today, a broad coalition of scientific professional societies who represent over 92,000 scientists are speaking out against the politicization and demonization of Federally funded science and government scientist jobs. It was an honor to help the Union of Concerned Scientists with this! 🧪🌎

I'm recruiting a 3-yr postdoc for an ARC-funded project on the interaction between circadian rhythms and grain quality in wheat. #plantsci #circadian We also have a fully-funded PhD position available. See Job Ad about Postdoc, email me about the PhD. jobs.unimelb.edu.au/en/job/91954...

Our new publication demonstrating role of GIGANTEA in wheat circadian clock. Provide evidence that effects of GI on flowering are likely dependent on floral regulator PPD1 onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.... #PlantScience (no idea why Wiley have that picture associated with the paper!) 🧪

Time to label every reference to Twitter/X in the media as "US state-controlled social media platform". Why should international organisations continue to use it? It would be a powerful gesture if democratic governments all over the world would move their entire social media content to Bluesky.

Excited that the highly motivated Annie will be joining the lab

🍾Big Congratulations to my dear colleague Uli Schaffrath @rwth.bsky.social and collaborators! Beautiful work showing that plant pathogenic fungi hijack phosphate signaling with conserved enzymatic effectors www.science.org/doi/10.1126/... #PlantSci #effectors #immunity #MolPlantPhys

The cleverest person I have met. Every time I had 10 minutes with John I learnt about my own research and got huge insight into areas of biology I did not know existed. from PhD onwards he wanted to know what I was doing, new data and ideas. Amazing.

This is a truly awesome story by @priyaramakrishna.bsky.social & @nikogeldner.bsky.social et al. #CryoSEM imaging of elements!!! They just opened the floodgates for many many cool discoveries!!! www.nature.com/articles/s41...

Most plants can`t handle salt, but have evolved strategies to survive in it. How do they do it?🌱🧪 Excited to share some of our first insights using a new cryoelemental imaging technique to answer these questions at the subcellular scale!(1/8) www.nature.com/articles/s41... @nature.com #PlantScience

The struggle is real. Three attempts to charge an electric car at Waitrose failed. Had to give my money to Musk and use a Tesla station. Middle class crises.

Word of the day is ‘quafftide’ (16th century): the season for drinking. Also a pithy way of declaring that it’s time to relax. Works for hydropots (water drinkers) just as well.
