Last night at Brussels Cinematek, the lovely Eléonore and I presented (trilingually!) Jerzy Skolimowski's THE SHOUT. Then I stayed to rewatch it, first viewing in nearly 50 years. Decent 35mm print. Can't think why I haven't rewatched it before, because (as you probably already know) it's superb.

I don't know how many people understand that disabled people are looking at losing £450 a month, every month, potentially for life. Money that pays for the help, aids, and adjustments that they need to exist in the world. There are disabled people who wouldn't survive these cuts.

Hive mind, your literally knowledge please: Examples of mothers who abandon their marriage and children in 1920s/1930s books. Ideally UK. The better known the better? Scandalous / unsympathetic characters fine but more nuance would be better. I know there are some but my memory is drawing a blank.
