In dark times like these it is important to focus on what really matters so I (re) watched this wonderful movie tonight. Migration is life and it is nice mubi.com/en/gb/films/...

Noone should be surprised the way Trump repeats The Kremlin rhetoric. He has always been the Putin's main instrument. Remember Helsinki 2018? www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-e...

I wonder how many IR articles praising/loving Thucydides will be out in the next few years.

In the world of Trump/far-right, the victim is always to blame because victimhood is only reserved for the powerful.

This is a beautiful movie mubi.com/en/gb/films/...

Given how his 'deal' has unfolded in Gaza, I am really sorry for Ukraine and Ukranians. In Trump's mind there are only powerful autocrats. He sees them as his equals. The rest is weak, unnecessary details and does not matter.

My Han Kang collection is getting bigger. So few authors manage to be both delicate and intense at the same time. She must have had the Nobel years ago.

This is an incredible movie 👇 www.rottentomatoes.com/m/crossing_2...

Those who dismiss Trump's discourse as his way of deal-making ignore this: it normalises American neocolonialism, use of force in international relations, and ethnic cleansing as a way to achieve 'peace'. This will generate unforeseeable consequences & add more uncertainty to the system.

Nice to see that my latest article 'Queering ontological (in)security: a psychoanalysis of political homophobia' is trending and one of the most read articles in CSoS www.tandfonline.com/journals/rcs...

See you in Belfast!

A different morning run route today before the second day of @britishacademy.bsky.social Global Disorder conference...

Well done 👏 aktuelles.uni-frankfurt.de/english/goet...

💯

I see three distinct phases. Pre-Fox, when opinion was diverse but actual facts were indisputable. Fox/Trump, where objective truth was subjected to the false equivalence of ‘alternative facts’ (ie lies). And now, where media & tech platform owners collude with him to drown out the truth altogether.

Unless people *globally* organise and stop posting at and engaging with the platforms like X or FB, and migrate to other platforms, and then force governments and media for such a migration, the current information disorder will deepen and consequences will be unimaginably destructive.

I have been reading Nehru's writings about RSS and the Mahasabha and find this very useful to make sense of politics today in many countries inc UK: 'Stupidity has a market, if it puts on some kind of a nationalist garb.'

Happy new year! This year's objective: less emails, more books 📚

Not acceptable. NORAD and Google have different Santa trackers. Which one is the actual Santa? What's happening to the world? #whereisSanta

Woke up the snow, now it is sunny 🤔 Vegan Christmas baking is on! #veganchristmas

Yes, I would agree with this. (Although I think the Outrun deserves better than the 25th)

#Russia gone, the project which is why,for many, both #Turkey and #Qatar were involved in #Syria so heavily, is back on the agenda...for good? www.aa.com.tr/en/energy/en...

Syria: fall of Assad a blow for Iran’s ‘Shia crescent’ – here are its foreign policy options in the new-look Middle East

My latest piece on @theconversationuk.bsky.social where I discuss the implications of the fall of Assad’s regime in Syria. In particular, I focus on the Iran’s dilemmas and a potential winner of the new realities in the region: China. #China #Syria #Iran theconversation.com/syria-fall-o...

"Dutch authorities overlooked Hamada’s suffering and cut off his support. “He saw returning to Damascus as his only option,” Khader said."

My views on Syria for BBC mundo www.bbc.com/mundo/articl...

China's inability to respond effectively to the recent developments in Syria "raises questions about Beijing’s ability to balance its aspirations to lead the Global South through groups like BRICS and the SCO with its hesitance to take decisive political action" www.scmp.com/week-asia/op...

Waad al-Kateab (you might remember her from 'For Sama') to the West and other states: 'You left us alone for 13 y3aes. Don't use us (Syrian refugees) to advance your interests in Syria now'. @skynewsrss.bsky.social

This is, at least for now, seems to be the most important outcome geopolitically. It will have implications beyond #Syria (in particular in Iraq and Israel-Hezbullah conflict)

Answers of these two questions will be important in the coming months: 1. Have Russia and Iran reached their limit of influence in the Middle East (at least militarily)? 2. While everybody's focus is somewhere else and playing nice with all the parties, is this Ankara's strategic victory?
