Looking beautiful Time Square. 🇺🇦

most of us can’t even comprehend how this possibly feels. solidarity with Palestine always.

We have always been at war with ... *Checks notes* Ukraine? Hmm. Anyway. We have always been at war with Ukraine.

💯

I have friends at the protest. The removal of gender from the civil rights bill of Iowa would be a tragedy and another step towards the genocide of trans bodies. Fight like hell, folks. Fight like hell.

i really am not being glib at all when i say that i do not want nazis to know everything about us or crash our planes or forcefully separate our neighbors from their children or detransition the coolest kids in our lives

Today!

I am surrounded by the strong, brave people who I wish with all my heart didn't have to be either of those things.

The conversations I've been having with fellow trans folks lately have been bleak, but also helpful. We're already finding ways to build community and support one another. I'm thankful for that in these years of darkness.

Forever pissed that I have to be Aware and Informed instead of reading science fiction and fantasy and writing stories. I'm a children's literature critic, not an expert on government! (Not a fan of this timeline. At all.)

Happy Black History Month, and yeah, we're still doing that.

There are so many awful things happening. But today is the first meeting of the SPCPA D&D club and for that I am thankful. We need stories to know dragons can be slain.

I've got a short story about transgender escapism, the sea, and Moby Dick in this new anthology from Pride with a Bite. All proceeds are going to the HRC to continue the fight for trans rights. Order link: pridewithabite.com/we-bite-back... #booksky

No Subjecting Me To New Horrors Until I've Had My Coffee.

This by Dan Savage is I think important to keep top of mind. It speaks to the point I made earlier that bad news is never the only news.

These words echo the use of the term "degenerate" to refer to trans people (a word the administration has already used).

Hannah Arendt perfectly explains how authoritarianism works.

I don't even know what to say. The cruelty we're waking up to this morning is overwhelming.

ME: *writing in my journal with the sole aim of pissing off future historians and archaeologists* I returned to my home - which is built in the usual style - by the normal way, and prepared and ate dinner in the way I often but not always do

Having to work the day after a Nazi party takes over the US government and declares open genocide on trans people is certainly a mood

This is the beginning of what will be at least 4 years of tests. Did you see what you saw or what they're telling you to see? Are you complying in advance? Are you accepting evils because they are legal?

Thank you for so many years of strange art.

I'm gunna jump on this. It's been a delight to emerge from the fledgling days of writing to pursue an MFA to find a world of craft and style to dance with. It is a realization that there are so many miles to go—a lifetime even.

Just saw a tiktok about how reading is the new luxury status symbol and I’m like yessss, finally my time has come!

This is the old tale of the sickness of power. Kill your heroes. Champion the working writers around us.

I adore teaching classes on ghost stories. Watching students grapple with tropes, themes, and images in such a pertinent way is a delight. Like yes, personify grief and guilt as a wailing creature in an empire dress. You've got this. Go go go!

The Humanities must firmly reject AI taking over our classrooms, our pedagogy. It’s the only way.

First there were books. Then a movie based on the books. Then a book adapted from that. Then a stage musical. Now a theatrical release. Truly, there is no rest for the Wicked

In 1977, Vincent Price starred in a one-man-show where he played openly gay Oscar Wilde; it was condemned by Anita Bryant. When asked about her condemnation, Price replied that Wilde had already written a play about Anita: “A Woman of No Importance”
