"Juan (12) is from Guatemala at the age of four. Mom is gone, Dad works hard & Juan wakes up around 4am to go to the babysitter. He wears the same shoes & sweater every day & the kids tease him because his mom is not around. Would Alice pay for new clothes & shoes?" We sent a gift card!

"Wilson (12) has microcephaly and Autism and recently had his third corrective surgery due to genetic mutations in his bone structure. He has plates & screws in his legs. AND HE WANTS TO TRYOUT FOR OUR LOCAL BASKETBALL TEAM! But Mom can't afford the registration fee." We paid the fee!!

We enjoyed paying for this chess set for this young boy!

"Tanya used her gift card to buy wrestling gear for this season: wrestling shoes, head gear & knee pads. This is a great opportunity to build positive relationships with her teammates. She's new to the school, so any opportunity to get out of her comfort zone & expand her social circle is great!"

"Sean (11) has congenital muscular dystrophy, is smart & very friendly. It rains a lot here in Seattle, he has an electric wheelchair but needs an umbrella to attach to his chair because he can't hold an umbrella himself. So, he often misses school when it rains." We paid for the umbrella.

While we try to remain anonymous, sometimes a parent tells her kid that someone helped them. That often generates nice letters like this one.

"Thanks for paying for a 'day out' for Mom and Elisa (14). Mom said her girl had so much fun getting her first pedicure/manicure. I can report, as her social worker, that Elisa now seems more confident & says she feels more 'put together.' That's everything we want from our young adults!!"

"Trevor's (17) drug addicted Dad kicked him out to live on the streets at the age of 14. As the result, he spent time in a juvenile detention center. He's now on track to graduate & plans to go to college. He has a very old car to go to work & school but needs new tires. Would Alice help?" YES.

Many immigrants in this country - documented or undocumented - are facing great uncertainty these days. To be clear: when we receive a request to help a child, we do not ask about their legal status.

"My student wanted to be able to fish for food for his family and Alice paid for a fishing pole. Well, he and his Dad went out and look what they got!"

We were happy to help this child, but imagine for a moment what he goes through on a daily basis.....

"Tony (13) used to play lacrosse but she had a heart attack during a game. She is now able to play again! Her Dad would like to get her new lacrosse supplies but he just doesn't have the funds. She needs cleats, goggles and a mouth guard. Would Alice help?" We sent a $150 Dick's gift card!

"Emily (10) is resilient despite her medical conditions. She told me recently that the other girls in her neighborhood have bikes & a club called 'Girlz with Bikez.' Her doctor says she needs more exercise to treat her condition but her single Mom can't afford a bike. Could Alice help?" YES!

"Madison (17) does EVERYTHING for Mom - washing, cleaning, cooking, etc. And when she gets to school she is exhausted. We'd like to make a space in the school where she can quietly rest (she gets here early). We looking at a Fold Out Bed with Built-in Mattress & pillow. Could Alice help?" YES.

Years ago we helped kids who lost homes in the Paradise fires. We then gave gift cards to high kids who lost homes in the tornados in KY. And now L.A. We want to collect email addresses of those who live in L.A. who might be willing to help us. Send info to [email protected] to volunteer.

"Recall a student in our school was being bullied because she wore a hiyab, then a student ripped it off of her head. Alice's Kids was kind enough to pay for a new one and she is now back in school and has even joined a new club! Thank you so much for lifting this child at a very difficult time."

A $100 gift card can go a long way. His teacher says he now loves coming to school to "show off" his new clothes!

Happy New Year! For our new followers, when you see a story in quotations, it means the words came straight from the teacher or social worker. These are real children. And if we post a picture, rest assured that we've take many precautions to insure the child's identity is not revealed.

"Brian (15) lives with his older sister. who works long hours. He is currently pursuing his GED online and uses his cellphone to complete his assignments. But it is not reliable and he can't always turn in his work. We'd love to get him a laptop but it costs $150." We paid for it.

We recently received a generous donation from the Nelly Custis Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution!

"Kevin (8) is autistic who, among other things, has trouble sleeping thru the night. But we've learned that he loves the sound of vacuum cleaners & dryers so we thought it might help him if he had a 'brown' noise playing machine. They're $40 but Mom can't afford it." We paid for the machine.

Take a minute to look at this fun page on our website. www.aliceskids.org/our-supporters

"I just let Bianca know Alice was paying for her senior dues. She was actually going to skip all the senior events. As a social worker, it is so encouraging to actually feel like my work mattered today, because something actually worked. I am personally thankful for that feeling."

"Shannon (17) is a leader in the school's symphonic band. She will be submitting a solo piece for state band which could also qualify her for a scholarship. But her saxophone broke recently & she is now borrowing an instrument from the school. She needs $130 to repair it. Can Alice help?" Yes
