Getting Started

Jan has #Aphasia a #languagedisorder caused by a #stroke in her case. Aphasia affects her #speech , #writing & #reading This is an example of not understanding a written sentence. Jan can often identify a keyword & make a guess, but she was stuck here. Once she hears the sentence it makes sense💜

Jan loves her volunteer role at the local #Stroke Association Support Group💜 It's given her 💜A Support Network 💜Purpose 💜Opportunity & Inclusion 💜Pride 💜A big smile Disability& #Aphasia aren't a barrier. Jan's proudly been a volunteer for over 10 yrs! #PeerSupport has been key in Jan's recovery!

Do you work with people with #stroke and #aphasia in the community? Interested in supporting wellbeing and self management? Have a look at this course 👇👇 All online and self paced. Deadline for registration 12th February www.city.ac.uk/prospective-...

This is a video we did with @thestrokeassoc.bsky.social demonstrating #TotalCommunication and giving lots of tips for having a good and supportive conversation with #Aphasia 💜 hopefully a good resource alongside the other varied info and support at stroke.org.uk 💜 youtu.be/eIuDUouihcg

If you haven't met Jan before, here she is explaining #Aphasia in her own words. This video has been seen thousands of times on other platforms💜Jan had a #stroke 20yrs ago when she was just 46. For the 1st year post stroke she had no words at all. She is very skilled at using #TotalCommunication 💜

Hello Bluesky...we are hoping to find others from the #Stroke and #Aphasia awareness, lived experience and research community. Who is over here? And what's your experience so far??💜
