Some non-Americans are expressing a sense of helplessness watching the US. My personal recommendation to those feeling that way is to work to steel up the science infrastructure, funding, and culture in your own country. We need everyone to harbor knowledge and incubate progress while the US can't!

🚨Preprint Alert New work with @martinavinck.bsky.social We elucidate the architectural bias that enables CNNs to predict early visual cortex responses in macaques and humans even without optimization of convolutional kernels. 🧠🤖 🧠📈

Rare chance to work as a Postdoc with one of the nicest people and a world expert in Neurovirology. The position is to investigate the connection between viruses and #Parkinson (more relevant than ever) and funded by philanthropy, so independent of government funding.

I don't often collect my paper mail, so only saw this just now. "the strength of our Nation is defined in part by the boldness of its science, the quality of its research, and the progress it brings forth." Exactly!

For every important election, Germany’s Federal Agency for Civic Education releases an online tool that asks your opinion on the most important topics and matches your responses with the statements given in the platforms/programs of all political parties. The newest one will go live in 1 minute.

Americans taught us Germans about freedom. After defeating a genocidal Nazi regime, they and regime survivors strongly influenced our constitution. Art. 5 guarantees uncensored freedom of speech & public information, and protections esp for: journalists, artists, professors, and scientists. #SciComm

Hey #energysky #climatesky et al. - I'm looking for a #heatpump science experiment or demo session appropriate for an elementary/middle school aged audience for an event I'm planning later this year. Basically, 20 mins of fun for kids re heat pumps! No luck with internet searching, any suggestions?

Hearing that a lot of NIH study section and council meetings are being cancelled. In the spirit of @nicolecrust.bsky.social ‘s call to action for scicomm, if you have found yourself with a few extra hours today, consider making a video or writing an op-ed on why research matters. 🙏

I have a post-doc position to study the effect of AI on education. How can we ensure that AI tools enhance natural intelligence? The position is a part of the Estonian Centre of Excellence in Artificial Intelligence. Please repost - not easy to get people to work in Estonia 🥶 #edusky #neuroAI

Maybe a good time to remember that mice have tiny hyperconnected brains. An estimated 97% of all possible connections between brain areas exist in mice, vs ~62% in macaques and marmosets. No wonder everything is everywhere in mice, they have all-to-all connectivity! doi.org/10.1093/cerc...

It is truly heartbreaking to explain to bright young scientists from abroad how much money it takes in the States to afford basic necessities like health care and child care. It does not have to be this way.
