The aftermath of my band taking on the 2021 Paqui One Chip Challenge in 2025 đź«Ą

Question: Everybody who's dreamed of starting or joining a band—what's really stopping you? What blockers have you hit? Genuinely curious about your experiences. I faced these barriers when first learning instruments & wondering what roadblocks are holding others back.

To be cringe is to be free y’all

I’m not surprised but also you should know better than to mess with Dolly.

Take phone videos of underground bands and upload them to YouTube :) Bands love to see it & the world needs more exposure to DIY music

My favorite part of Bluesky is all of the oldheads on here sharing their punk scene photos from back in the day

If anyone tries telling you singing is a born gift and you either have it or you don’t, they are wrong. I couldn’t sing for shit when I was 20. I signed up for lessons and by the time I was 26 I felt like I had full self expression with my voice. It takes work, but it’s possible.

It is the darkest of all possible humor that Disney is publicly rolling back their DEI initiatives and removing content warnings from older, racially-insensitive work on the same week that they are releasing a new MCU movie with a Black man as Captain America.

I've been going to multi-band bills for years. The sets that stick always have: an enigmatic vocalist, band chemistry you can't fake, and a completely unapologetic performance. Those are the shows you think about years later.

Talking about Super Bowl plans w my sister yesterday: Her: “Who are you rooting for?” Me: “Who's playing?” Her: “I hate you”

The world needs you to build something big. Money hungry, narcissistic leaders want you to feel powerless and unable to facilitate massive change. Prove them wrong.

She’s so real for this

Quick question for the DIY fam: how do you prefer your show schedules? ⏰ Strict schedule (10min changeovers) vs. Relaxed pace (15-30min breaks)? 🌙 Early show (6pm doors) vs. Late night (8pm doors)? ⚡ Punk time vs. No punk time 🎸 3 band bill vs. stacked bill Musicians & showgoers drop your take

Dang ol' dang ol'

In this week’s podcast Giauna speaks on finally breaking free from feeling like she had to do "the jazz thing" because of her degree. She talks about letting go of those self-imposed rules and diving into all kinds of bands – everything from hardcore punk to klezmer to J-pop in these last few years.

Maximum Rock n’ Roll is cool as hell

Leadership wisdom: Frame your message to empower, not critique. When advocating for change, focus on the positive potential ahead rather than what's wrong today. People are inspired by possibility, not by fault-finding. Make your audience feel capable and valued.

This week on Local Music Shapes Culture I kick it off chatting with Brady Turner, one of Indianapolis’s top DIY show organizers in our city and a primary reason the hardcore and metal scene has exponentially grown in the last couple years.

Moshpits have a huge cultural grounding within the punk community and they are awesome. They tie in the community to this communally understood show experience. Check out the next episode of Local Music Shapes Culture tonight at 8pm EST with Devin Kerr of the band Slur.

Being in a band sucks and you should definitely not experience the fun of it

The first episode of my new podcast, Local Music Shapes Culture, is out now! It breaks down what DIY music is—how local shows work, the values that drive the scene, and why it means so much to the people involved. Tune in and join the conversation!

U are doing great … keep listening to your body and doing what feels good for you. U are smart & will continue to evolve

DIY isn’t just local music—it’s an ideology with the power to reshape culture. It’s about communities taking ownership, valuing talent fairly, and cutting out the systems that profit off artists and creators. It’s bigger than music. It’s about reclaiming power and building culture our way.
